Deadman recaps his origin:

Johnny Foster's situations is illustrative of Deadman's ongoing problem these days. Rama keeps sending him to people whose problems he can't solve by simply taking over their bodies to punch out bad guys or somersault or whatever. Frankly, he's completely baffled as to how he's expected to help these folks, and he feels like a failure.

Before he hops into Johnny's body, he decides there's an errand he needs to run. He visits a medium who he knew back in his circus days.



We don't learn who this librarian lady is or what Deadman's planning, but whatever it is, it has to do with the dissatisfaction he's feeling these days.

I liked Quantum Leap too.

It's got that vibe, definitely, but Deadman predates Quantum Leap by quite a bit (although he usually came across the needy while doing his The Fugitive bit).

Yeah, but I do think the addition of a definite (if mysterious) mission plan for him, with an ultimate goal makes it a LOT more QL than Deadman.

I believe the original Deadman stories had an ultimate goal too, though: To find the assassin who murdered him, a man with a hook for a hand.

Yes, but he tracked down the killer after a few years and after that, he was just supposed to maintain the "balance" or some vague thing like that.

That's partially true. Rama always had a goal for him, at one time he even helped to protect the souls of Barry Allen and Jason Todd (when they were still dead). There's definitely more of an added purpose here, though, and his being pulled towards the men and women he needs to help definitely echoes QL.

Which I don't mind one bit.

Hoped someone would post this. This was a great intro to Deadman and it served great as a #1 issue. Looking forward to more.

Not really, they appeared as Caucasian looking women from 1962 until (aparently) their appearance in the "One Year Later" era

Maybe, but her sign reads "The Amazing Madame ROSE PSYCHIC," though there's an implied space between the last two words with her image placement.

I just took a flyer on this book, but I like it a lot. I've always liked the premise of Deadman but never really followed his story. This looks good so far.

I loved Deadman's earlier series in the 2000s, I'm sure I'll love this book once DM's arc is collected as a Trade~
