Ultimate X House Calls

The last of the four new Ultimate books launched this last week. by Nick Spencer and Paco Medina, it continues with the status quo post-Ultimatum where Magneto's attack has set human/mutant relations back to the dark ages.

It also builds on Loeb's Ultimate X book, using Ultimate Jean Grey Karen Grant and Wolverine's son, and also using the trio of Iceman, Johnny Storm and Kitty Pryde following on from Death of Spider-man.

It's pretty good and for the first time in a while, a comic shocked me. I'll put out a warning for implied gore and violence as well as familial violence.

The woman with the black hair is Ultimate Jean Grey Karen Grant. She's doing the Xavier thing of dropping in on a young mutant whose power has just manifested to offer them a place at her school "concern, set up to help kids". The woman with the red hair is Miss Pleasant, whose daughter is a mutant, and has videoed her using her powers.



At which point I get a really bad feeling in my stomach.


Wow. That's some really good lettering. Really good.
And then dad comes downstairs with a rifle and a Magneto-esque helmet with WW solutions written on it.


p.s. On the last page of Ultimate Hawkeye 2..., who are Fury's X-Men? I recognise the blonde as being Ultimate Tabitha Smith, but I'm stuck for everybody else.

You know, if you were going to do that, wouldn't you, you know, not let the person who wants to help your daughter come in in the first place?

Also, while I'll admit I don't quite remember Jean's Karen's power-set, if she has both telekenesis AND telepathy, but shouldn't she have felt the girl's distress?

It does raise the question of why she didn't read that the mom knew her husband was upstairs with a rifle.

Yeah, it kinda reads as "rule of dumb" to make for the most traumatic scene possible. It might work better if, say, Jean Karen is talking to this mother who's clearly agitated and trying to hide it and just as she figured out what was going on, she catches the father trying to carry the daughter away. The girl was dead before Jean (fuck it I'll just say Jean) ever had a chance to save her.

IDK where ultimate X-men is in regard to this cause god knows Ultimate Marvel characters don't give a fuck and I mean it's not like the 616 X-Men give a shit about any principles anymore but at least in the old days it was a point that Jean/Professor X didn't go pickin' thoughts out of people's minds without an invitation.

Xavier was always a prick in Ultimate X-Men. Right in the first story, Millar had him trying to manipulate Scott into staying at the mansion by tinkering with his brain.

Jean, from what I recall, was always a touch more respectable unless she was up against a villain.

Toward the end of the first arc, Logan seduced Jean and Scott saw them. He got ready to leave, and in conversation with Xavier, specified he knew the Professor was doing something to his mind. Xavier responded that he was, and had done something I can't quite recall, but Scott was about to 'say words he couldn't possibly mean'.

It's the UXM issue before Scott works with the Brotherhood in the Savage Land.

The first issue seemed more like a one and done with build to later plot points than a single story.

Ultimate Liz Allen (Firestar), Ultimat Jean Grey, and the new Ultimate Angel are the X-kids in Hawkeye 2.

None in particular, other than them being core members of Ultimate X and that I read it. The new Angel is definite. I suppose the other two could be any black haired and blonde haired gals but Jean/Karen and Liz are the only ones I recall from Ultimate X.

Um, was there a big reveal that Jimmie Hudson's mom is Jean Grey (though I don't know how that would work age-wise, or did you mean "Jean Grey, Wolverine's son, and also..."

What's the status of the Ultimate Magneto? The last time i saw him, he killed Charles and that was also the last time I toughed an Ultimate title. Is he alive? I'm asking because I've always longed for a story when Magneto has to face the fact that human hate is fueld by him.

He was killed by Cyclops before Cyclops himself got his head blown off in the same issue.
Ultimatum was kind of like that.
