chocochuy: Kobato Hanato on a Sunny Day (Queen of Cuteness)

As I was searching thru some pictures I gathered to post around here, I found one that summarizes the coolness that is She-Hulk. Hope you like how she even gains Amadeus Cho's respect while they are discussing about the problems of items that grant wishes.

Way to go, She-Hulk!!!

And now a final gift from the All-Father Odin as he becomes part of the "Me Gusta" meme. Use it as you wish, comrades.

Yeah, her career as a lawyer never had her draw on her years at law school.

Besides, that still doesn't preclude Cho from being teleported to a timeless dimension for 10 minutes where speech in impossible, but he's still emotionally traumatized.

Or whatever.

That falls under the health and well-being clause; it includes mental well-being by not excluding it. However, it doesn't prevent the wish granter from putting him in a deathless sleep that prevents any other kind of action as well, as long as his health is provided for. Hope you didn't need Amadeus to defuse a bomb in the next 10 minutes!

That would be precluded by the "general well being of anyone" clause.

Thankfully so, or every D&D campaign ever would be over the first moment any character gets their hands on a wand of wishing or learns the Wish spell.

I'm sure a story like this exists somewhere, but I would LOVE to read a story about a lawyer outsmarting a genie/devil/other generic wish granter.

I've seen a few various places, but I remember one story where the lawyer gets hold of a wishing device (already infamous in the world of the story) and decides to foolproof his wishes with legal boilerplate. Seriously, about a page of small type for each wish designed to prevent him from getting shafted or (as was usually the case with this particular item) other people getting the benefits instead. He gets all the way through his three wishes and the device replies, "Wishes denied." Then vanishes for the trip to the next "lucky" wisher.

It's not quite the same thing but still amusing:

The death metal band Dethklok meet with the devil to sell their souls for blues music fame. (Long story.) The band nitpicks the contract down to the bone and negotiate it down to a $5 Hot Topic gift card to receive, along with blues talent, 7% on the backend of the devil's soul. When the devil says he wants to run that past a notary first, one of the members says, "I'm a notary...." The devil declines their offer.

Turns out they don't need his help to play lethal blues anyway.

The premise behind one of the "solo" games on Uberworld (a HERO System RPG site) was that, due to the wish-based effect of a djinn, your character has been granted the powers of a fictional superhero. (In this context, the PC exists in the Uberworld universe; to him, fictional characters would likely be Marvel or DC-based.) Unfortunately, they have also been granted the fate of that hero, compete with genre conventions, unlikely plot twists, and angst. While their life will not be a direct copy of the original, it will begin to have extremely strong similarities; story conflict comes from both traditional comic book conventions as well as the post-modern self-awareness of the superheroic genre. Ultimately, the dramatic question becomes "will the character be able to synthesize their self-aware knowledge into a meaningful life as the homage to a comic book icon?" For this particular game, it was a 42 year-old accountant who (somehow) gained the services of a genie, and made these wishes:

1) "I wish that all three of my wishes be granted on the basis of my intent."
2) "I wish to have a full understanding of the consequences of all three of my wishes before I make them."
3) "I wish I were a hero."

The result? He gained the powers -- and fate -- of Peter Parker. (This was set up long before CIVIL WAR; I don't know if they tackled things like OMD, or it the game's still even active. Though, in a grimly ironic twist, the character was named Widower...)

Not a lawyer but Giant Girl used a fool proof way of getting rid of a genie with her last wish (With the first two being accidental wishes) in Marvel Adventures: Avengers.

Aside from the likes of "The Monkey's Paw" and "The Devil and Daniel Webster" (and even the Simpsons take on those in one of their "Treehouse of Horror" episodes), there's THIS one.

I've posted this link before, but I don't care, it remains AWESOME!

"Three Years" of law school?

Hmm. Four years of pre-law at [INSERT UNIVERSITY HERE], three years getting her J.D. at UCLA Law, another three getting her MM.L. in Superhuman Law at Harvard Law, plus a month of mandatory Continuing Legal Education every year to remain a member of the New York Bar... I count at *least* ten years in school for Jen, and going by the usual 4:1 rule, she's had roughly five months of CLE since getting her J.D. (let's be generous and say she'd just started her career at the time of Savage She-Hulk #1, and that she didn't get her J.D. until the period after the end of Sensational She-Hulk but before the start of Adjectiveless She-Hulk).

Yeah, nice try, writer, but you screwed this one up but good.

People who are ridiculously smart can get through it faster. Though I'm not sure Jen qualifies as that level of intelligent. Though it would make a lot of sense if Marvel Universe Law Colleges had lower standards. Superhuman/Mutant Registration Acts anyone?

(Agh! I meant not getting her MM.L. until after Sensational She-Hulk; she had to have her J.D. before the start of Savage...)

Possible, but there's still a limit on how quickly you can get through it just due to time requirements for the classes. And while you CAN just pass the Bar Exam and be accepted as a lawyer in some states, according to a friend who *is* a lawyer in NYS, the New York Bar won't let you even attempt the Bar Exam without a J.D....
