Ok, I'll have to admit. This is the "BIG FIGHT" we've been waiting for since both books began, and yet the art isn't good. It's confusing, especially in the later panels/pages of the preview.

Meh.

Let's hope the writing and story are better.

I think my issue here is I don't really recall much of a suggestion that Max was really on a par powerwise with Plutonian, unless he was so frazzled by lack of sleep that he'd be more of a liabilty than Plutonian was.

Yeah, pretty much. Even if Max is as strong and tough as Plutonian when he's totally insomniac--and I don't think we've seen much to support that--one guy's a flying speedster who nukes cities by looking at them, and the other guy isn't.

It makes sense that a prepared, bad-guy Max could be a regular thorn in the side of a restrained, good-guy Plutonian, but a straight slugfest between them should be pretty one-sided.

Tony is a high-grade telekinetic, though. IIRC, it's been implied that he's really only as strong as he believes himself to be...which is terrifying in its own right if he thinks he's a God because his powers will MAKE him one.

OTOH, if he gets frazzled (like he was at the insane asylum), his powers decrease. Hence why the cutter was able to injure him at the asylum but not on Earth.

It's been implied that Max was a match for the Plutonian in the old days. That is, when Tony played by the rules and Max didn't.

Remember, when the series began, Max was about to unleash a deadly pathogen to kill a huge number of people. Tony has gone toe-to-toe with him before...but in a totally different capacity. With Max playing for the angels and Tony unrestricted, it's presumably not the same ballgame. Of course, the longer Max stays awake, the more potentially unhinged he gets.

I think that art's okay. It isn't great or anything, but it's a lot better than "not good."

Oh, I put it side by side. Plutonian gets kicked to power lines, gets zapped, then he takes off the cables from him, gets zapped again and THEN pulls the towers down on Max.

And I was thinking... huh?

I think Tony breaks the cable in half and shorts it through himself on purpose, either to destroy the towers*, or just to show off that he's way too tough to care.


*no idea how that would work, super-physics-wise, but hey.

Love the one single piece of conversation in that preview.

Plutonian and Max going at it almost like old friends. I love it when nemeses skirt the boundaries of respect and of knowing each other almost too well.

I think the rest of the preview is the good stuff as the pages go. They're really just warming up :)
