It does have it's moments of lightness when characters of the sort show up (like Spider-man), but it does admittedly focus more on the darker side of things (as you'd expect from Laura).
It depends on who's interacting with her. When dealing with enemies, it goes all out darkside, but when dealing with friends or those who want to be her friends or are at least friendly, Laura becomes the awkward turtle, totally out of her element.
I like Valeria way better written as a really smart kid the way she is here, as opposed to being basically a tiny, douchey adult the way she is in some other places.
Agreed. I just wish the sliding timescale would snap back. At best, Franklin's a late-teens/early twenties like the Power Pack kids should be, and Val's middle-to-high school aged.
Franklin will never age. It's like an unwritten Marvel rule. You can fanwank it that given his powers he deliberately keeps himself young (just like he changed history that caused Val to be born instead of miscarried).
Hasn't Peter Parker been Spider-Man about 12 or 13 years, Marvel-time (although Marvel would love you to believe he's only 25)? Franklin has been around for a long time, but in-universe he shouldn't be older than 10 or so. The problem for me is that there seems to be no consensus as to how old he should be written and drawn. The poor kid seems to fluctuate in age constantly. How old is he supposed to be in these panels? I can't tell.
Besides, if it's any character's fault Franklin can't age it's Peter "Spider-Man is all about youth" Parker.
I agree how he's drawn has clouded the issue. Franklin still looks the same age as when Val was BORN while they've aged her up to 5 or 6 or more. Eventually she'll end up being older than him.
Distracting Laura with promises of shiny dinosaurs the second they are alone... Look at the short look they give each other before they have formulated a plan... Look at how they look like the scary blond kids from Village of the damned...
But the girl is almost doing the nazi salute WITH BOTH HANDS when she raise her arms to tell of the interdimensional window.
That's how evil she is!
And what did she build that window for to begin with? To look at shiny dinosaurs? Don't make me laugh. I'm sure there's another settting that allows her to gaze into the Hydraverse or something.
But the girl is almost doing the nazi salute WITH BOTH HANDS when she raise her arms to tell of the interdimensional window. Despite what David Low would have you believe, it didn't work like that.
Now I want Marjorie Liu to write a Franklin/Valeria book (and I do think given their respective power/intelligence set they could make an interesting one with those two). This is so much fun....and pretty, pretty art.
I was trying to figure out what it is that got me so hard about the above, and I worked out that it's specifically that Valeria sticks her hands up in the air for emphasis when she tells Eckwinty-Three about her interdimensional teleport window.

Date: 2011-11-11 01:35 pm (UTC)I can't help because I only jumped in recently (the issue before this one, #16, which can be found here - https://comics.comixology.com/#/series/4789 ).
I sent an e-mail to comixology to know if #17 will be available digitally next Wednesday.

I'm now a bit intrigued by the series too.
