They probably made it red/black to reference the eventual Batman Beyond character.
Except Batman Beyond had nothing to do with Dick Grayson. And since they already have the red on black for their actual Batman Beyond comic, and Batwoman and to a lesser extent Red Robin, adding ANOTHER one in. who had a perfectly decent, and unique in the Batclan, colourscheme already, the choice of red still baffles me from every POV.
Also, red DOES pop more than blue by its very nature...
Against a pale background perhaps, but I still don't see how dark red can be said to "pop" more compared to light blue, when the contrast is against a much darker colour.
