It's it kinda amusing that the Shade, a long term villain, knows enough about torture to know that it isn't a reliable way to get information, while the heroes in Cry for Justice evidently didn't know.

...Which kind of makes sense. Now that you think about it.

I'm tempted to give her a bit of a pass. She's a police officer and associate of at least one known superhero (Jack Knight) one... dubious person (Shade) and possibly a few other heroes (Depending on how close she got to Ralph and Sue, Black Condor and Hamilton Drew), so she would be VERY in the know about his reputations.

From her POV he's the guy who, amongst other things, has a rep for nearly bringing down the most powerful team of Teen Titans on record, killed Phantom Lady, and has a track record for assassinations and killings all over the world.

Hrrm, you just reminded me that Slade was involved in the death of Black Condor, and that the Phantom Lady was in-fact working in Opal as well for a while. And that he was working in conjunction with Dr Light.

*Sigh* Opal REALLY should be a place to avoid if you're someone who has messed with the local hero community, even tangentially, as they are kind of a closeknit bunch.

DC made the original Phantom Lady, Ted Knight's cousin, and she chose and trained Dee Tyler, the Phantom Lady Slade murdered, so yes, there should be a number of people with a grudge against him.

I did like Shade pointing up the fact that Slade is a mercenary, he's not the important one, it's the one who HIRED him that he needs to find.

One of the (many, many, MANY) annoying things about Slade from Identity Crisis onwards was that he always seemed to be more or less self employed.

He wasn't so much "mysterious" prior to his revamp in Starman, so much as no one ever gave enough of a crap to even give him anything like a backstory.

Slade of all people must have realized that Shade wasn't dead. Even they reuse to even try and show him being badass, he's smart enough to realize who he's dealing with.

He's also smart enough to let sleeping gods lie. So he probably just sighed out of relief, cashed the check and took the first flight to Australia.

In hindsight that last choice wasn't the best he ever made.

So have they telegraphed enough that this whole thing is to get Shade's attention for some reason, rather than to actually kill him, or should they hint some more?

This coloring is SO weird for a Shade book. I'm having a hard time getting over it.

I don't need everything in black and white, perish the thought... but the is just so cartoony pop that I am weirded out!
