NEWS: DC Comics' Booster Gold Heads to Syfy

Syfy has ordered a pilot based on the DC Comics character Booster Gold, says a story at The Hollywood Reporter. "Fringe" writer Andrew Kreisberg has been tasked with writing a pilot.

Created by Dan Jurgens in 1986 and featured in his own eponymous series, Booster Gold is the superheroic identity of Michael Jon Carter, a resident of the 25th century who travels back in time to the present day DC Universe. There, he makes use of his futuristic technology to become a hero, at first eschewing traditional heroic notions of justice and nobility and instead signing endorsement deals and shamelessly self-promoting.

Booster Gold was featured in the final season of "Smallville," played by Eric Martsolf. There, he teamed with both Clark Kent and Blue Beetle (another incarnation of which was one of the character's best friends in the comics). There is not yet word on whether this new live-action Booster Gold will have any connection to the "Smallville" appearance.

SyFy's track record with TV shows is not terrible.

Well, it depends on who's producing and showrunning. They have one of the guys who's exec producing on Warehouse 13, which might be loads of fun with time travelling hijinks with Booster.

I do like Syfy current shows quite a lot, great directors and writers around that channel. (like Warehouse 13, Eureka, Haven, Alphas... so many well done shows, even on small budgets)

I think this project as a lot more chance and possibilities than the way Warner was developing that Wonder Woman TV Show.

It's one of my favorite characters! On one of the worse TV networks since ever. But honestly low budget CGI and cheesy writing may work for Booster, I'll definitely give it a chance if it premieres.

I actually prefer the scifi shows Syfy put out (Eureka, Warehouse 13, Alphas, Haven..) rather than the ones the big networks have, stereotypical, cliché and boring... and which end up cancelling all the time anyways (Sarah Connor, No Ordinary Family, The Cape, The Event, Heroes, etc..)

At least they're a bit more entertaining and have some humor..

I honestly was thinking it would be like Booster from Smallville and was mildly excited. But Booster as Quantum Leap for the 2000s would be so fucking amazing!!!!

Damn. Now I am really excited and hopeful.
