Uncanny X-Men Annual #5

I'd actually thought about posting this scene before, and with the recent post concerning the Marvel Not Christmas Special, I figured what the hell.

"Ou La La--Badoon!" is a Fantastic Four/X-Men team-up story from 1983, featuring Chris Claremont's script and Brent Anderson on art. Long story short: the FF get kidnapped by a Badoon scouting party. Sue escapes, runs to the X-Men, and together they discover that the Badoon have invaded and mostly taken over the neighboring dimension of Polemachus, where Arkon lives. They go there and kick the Badoon the hell out.

The story is pretty inconsequential but has been one of my favorites for a long time. It's just a good, clean adventure story in the classic mold, with Claremont channeling the hell out of the classic SF novels he grew up on. The story also features the first time Susan Richards meets Storm and, as per below, the first time Kitty Pryde met Ben Grimm.





The subsequent page is Arkon and Storm realizing they aren't really meant for each other, even though it's the 1980s and Everyone Wants to Get With Storm is just beginning to become a thing.

Northstar's probably #1, but the rest would be fun surprises.

Did you read the story with Storm were she was in that fighting arena with Callisto? All the U and T disappeared and were replaced with lots of S.

I'm pretty sure fighting in an arena is how they spent all their dates, which one do you mean?

I didn't remember that issue being Cockrum's work, and it doesn't look like it. Sure enough, taking a quck look elsewhere says the artist here was Brent Anderson, with inks by Bob McLeod.

I remember the animated series' take of this... of course that was back when Jean and Scott where destined and true lovers whose bonds could never be destroyed by anything, same as Peter and MJ... By Odin's Beard, you know comics really are screwed when they RUIN the classic animated shows they were based on!
