Remember that thing that happened before all those big events started, where Tony was stressing over a mole in his company?

Apparently, so does Marvel.

Finally, after the many world-Avenger-related crises Tony's had to face, he's able to have a meeting.

Tony asks about the advancements, and realized how LONG he's been out of the loop in his own industry... they talk about what they've been working on, such and such, and then, someone finally brings up the elephant in the room.

Next page is.... well, just an excuse to post about awesome redheads. Any objections?

AND FINALLY, the first moment the mole--AND THE FAN THEORIES WERE RIGHT--comes to light.

Looking through the threads way way back, people were making guesses at Spymaster being the mole in this one, and they were right, apparently.

Now, all that's left is to see who he is on the team (Tony suspects Pimacher, by the way, and the speech patterns are consistent with his, although they probably will make it someone unexpected) and what their plans will come to eventually.

If it is Pimacher, I sorely hope for a heel-face-turn because he's got a boyfriend in the team for Chrissakes

.... yay!

I keep thinking I should catch up with this series, but then I read a few pages and it's... out of touch Tony and jellus!Pepper? Ugh.

Except that hasn't been the case historically. It's only since the Bendis era that Tony's been unable to balance things. I mean, yes he's had his meltdowns, but for most of the character's history he's been a multitasker supreme.

I've heard that Bethany's 'revenge' on Pepper was to release footage of her crying during Fear Itself to make her and Stark Resilient look bad. Which... does not strike me as very in-character for Bethany.

The last issue was it for me, I stopped trying to pay attention anymore. And it wasn't even like one thing that made me give up, it was a million little things like this that I just find boring or can't stand.

That and I hate the art.

On some level, it's nice to see passive aggression receive a response like that (and I mean the.. whole response, however petty it itself was).

I do wonder how the fact that Spymaster is actually someone within Stark Resilient was ever just a 'fan theory'. Justine Hammer approached him just after Stark Disassembled and told him she wanted SR killed while it was still in the crib. How was Spymaster and the mole within SR ever not related?

Not to ask a stupid continuity-heavy question, but are we supposed to think Bethany is Tony's AA sponsor? From "Demon in a Bottle," there's not much that says Bethany has/had a substance abuse problem herself. Another stupid continuity-heavy question: I thought it wasn't called the Daily Bugle anymore.

Tony is in a rough spot. Can he really say, "Oh, I got drunk in order to get Odin's attention so we could stop the Serpent and save the world." Well, he could SAY it.

Finally, Tony doesn't look THAT much like a dark-haired Josh Hoilloway in this issue.

Henry Hellrung is officially Tony's AA sponsor. But Bethany's job seems to be a general PR/Security combination (keeping Stark Resilient safe from attacks physical and social) hence her being pissed about not being told what happened up front.

"That's a little... Invasion-of-privacy-y, isn't it, Tim?"

Ha! I get it! Like iPhone's location logging! Subtle jab, writers!

Guess we're just forgetting Tony's stance from way back in the Armor Wars when he didn't trust people to use his tech responsibly and he always wanted ultimate control over it.

Wasn't there a conversation at the beginning of this arc where they started him reversing his earlier characterization?

Okay I'm confused... In order to protect the company she screwed it over? Are we supposed to sympathize with Bethany? Because I'm not.....

That first page brings up one of the big issues I had with Fear Itself early on. Stark's big PR-savvy construction project is rebuilding a huge fortress/palace in Oklahoma for a bunch of frickin' gods who (a) aren't bothered by the elements, (b) can quarry and carry 30-ton blocks of stone on their own damn backs without need of construction crews, and (c) will probably just blow it to smithereens again in their next battle with one of Asgard's big enemies, not insignificantly taking out the homes, livelihoods, and possibly lives of the regular folks in Broxton and surrounding towns in the process.

Yeah, so much more socially responsible and likely to engender goodwill than turning that effort to low-cost housing for victims of flooding or the underprivileged in general. Nice thinking there, Tipsy McAutocrat.

I hate to be a cold splash of water, but "We Helped ReBuild the Home of the Gods!" is far more attention grabbing - that's at the 'Holy Wow!' level and news would cover it for months, whereas building homes for underprivileged might get some 'That was Nice of Them' comments after the one news article ever that mentions it.
