So far Avengers Academy has been consistently good. I love the old cast, and i love the new kids! i hope this new story line doesn't turn either of them into cannon fodder... i also don't want the old kids to end up becoming evil anyway :(

Should i read the Sentinel series? cuz this seems hilarious heehee A kid with a genocidal robot as a best friend shouldn't be one to talk. and "Destroy mutants! *skwak* Welcome Vistors"

Thankfully Juston isn't getting killed, the writer confirmed. This preview made me double take when I first saw it.

It was said Striker wanted to hurt Lightspeed? Or was that in the actual issue?

Love Ava/White Tiger too. This issue also talks about her backstory, which was cool.

Is that... is that /Hybrid/?

Holy crap, someone actually remembered Hybrid??

I had the comics with him back in the day, where ROM met Rogue and Mystique and Destiny, and they were teaming up with Hybrid until Destiny realized that Hybrid's plan was to use them as some kind of breeding harem for dire wraith/human/mutant babies or something.

Early 80s, actually, which made it even more shocking.

I just checked, it was the May and July 82 issues of ROM, 31 and 32.

Mind you, unlike the 90s, this was done in a one off 'creepy psychic flash' rather than - as it would be in the 90s - with creepy alien rape or something.

Yeah, if it was after 2004 it would have been outright slightly off panel but leaving no doubts rape.

Not that big a surprise surely. Claremont was doing his most subversive stuff in X-Men at that time?

Grummet is doing the pencils for this?

...okay, picking this up now. The art in the last thing I saw for Avengers Academy looked really not that good, but this. This I like.

(The inking seems a bit off, but whatever.)

I'm loving the new kids so far.

Also, you should totally read the Sentinel series.

Juston is awesome.

Sentinel was part of Marvel's Tsunami initiative, which purposefully introduced a bunch of new stuff to see if it had legs, as well as putting a bunch of new writers on old characters, like Brian Vaughan on Mystique and a new book for Namor. Runaways was pretty much the only one with any legs. And Mary Jane wasn't even 'Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane', at first, it was just 'Mary Jane' as a four issue mini, which progressed into 'Mary Jane: Homecoming' as another mini, and then the ongoing SMLMJ.

Wasn't Young Avengers a Tsunami title?

Nope. It was launched around the same time Runaways Vol 2 was launched, I think? If not a little bit after. Tsunami was before Disassembled, anyway, and YA was launched after, 'cause Avengers Mansion was trashed.

I thought I saw Young Avengers trades in the digests like the tsunami titles so I assumed they were related.

Wasn't that what gave us the Namor soap opera, the Nightcrawler-as-supernatural-detective series and the Emma Frost with hideously bad covers thing?

Couldn't say regarding the Nightcrawler stuff, but... Yeah, the Namor soap opera and the Greg Horn-covered Emma Frost series were both part of Tsunami. As it was, though, Emma Frost didn't seem to be that bad a series, just that it had covers that had fuck all to do with the actual comic. Tsunami as a whole didn't seem to be a bad idea, though - especially since it gave us Vaughan and Alphona on Runaways.

Oh, Hybrid, you're the first target of the Purifiers to make them seem rational.

(Loved that whole " He's the devil! No, seriously, stop punching me, that kid is really pure evil! " bit.)
