Interestingly, the preview also explains why he choses to go by the name "Shade" then and now, as opposed to Richard/Dickie Swift. Also, yikes, Opal sure had a lot of English people move there over the course of time, it seems. I mean, if you include this guy that Richard seems to be in the midst of robbing, Shade himself, the Pirate ghost and his family (who evidently moved to Gotham later and met Bruce Wayne during his time travelling thing), the Sherlock Holmes expy who inspired Ralph Dibny, and Ted Knight's parents had moved to Opal from England as well.
The last one led to a funny story in one of the issues, where a Scottish-American supervillain got into an arguement with the English-American Ted Knight and his Irish-American policeman friend, and claimed that due to his ancestry he was duty-bound to hate both of them on princple. Besides the cop/superhero thing.
