Inspired by [personal profile] icon_uk's previous post, I just remembered *this* story exists.

Hey...[personal profile] icon_uk can't have all the fun. :P

From Batman & Robin #19, this sequence is pretty self-explanatory:

Actually...a gigantic hole through your frontal lobe will result in no thinking at all, and even less so if you're dead? Then again...comics... XP

And then...

Oh come. How else do you think the story ends? :D

Is she trying to mock them with the "like a girl"/sissification stuff, or..? :/

Neat deathtrap, though.

that's... this villian always seemed off to me. I don't think the Sissification thing was actually a thing... i think it's her babbling on. thinking since she was a girl Bruce wayne doesn't care for anyone least of all the girls he is with, that these guys are just as disposable as any of this women.... or... like i said... seh has a giant hole in her head and doesn't know a thing she is saying...

The hole in her head, from her POV actually improved her clarity of thought, though it removed a lot of her ability to emote and empathise. She saw Bruce Wayne, quite accurately for the public persona of Bruce, as an emotionally shallow person, incapable of truly loving anyone.

In short, "Yes, she is"

It just seems a bit.. crap. Is it a response to Robin's misogyny issues?

I don't think so, it's just part of her much more complicated plan for revenge. She's needling Batman and Robin every way she can think of to keep them focussed on her, not her actual plan. She's playing up the role of "Batman and Robin villain", when actually she doesn't give a rats ass about them except how they demonstrate Bruce's mindset... sort of.

I think a lot of it was being quite subversive, eg;

-'I killed all his other lovers because he can't love anyone else, bwaha!'
-'Just kidding, why would anyone actually do that? They haven't done anything to me.'

And in this scene she talks about 'mansplaining' too, so I guess the sissification stuff is mocking the frequently ludicrous nature of the male ego?

Possibly this is because I just finished my readings for a women's studies/lit class, but I keep on wanting to tie it into vaginal representations and. Y'know. Holes in things.

I guess you could go further and talk about the head as the "seat of intellect" or whatever, and rational thought being tied to masculinity, and how having a female villain that appears to be, literally, brainless is playing to that trope, and that furthermore by making her a villain is way of engaging with the demonizing of womanhood, emotion and power, but that's getting a little too ridiculous, isn't it?

I actually really liked the premise of this story. The execution is a little weak and I hate McDaniels art, but there's something brilliant in the idea of the fake Bruce Wayne playboy persona having his own villain. And just like the Joker is partly Batman's own creation, she's Playboy Bruce's creation.

And yes, this is a cool death trap scene.

I thought it was really clever and subversive, even more so in subsequent readings.

I still can't get over how ridiculous the physiology here. Forgiving the idea of her brain being spread across the inside of her skull which allows her to survive a head injury, but having TWO holes in her skull would totally destroy the structural integrity of her skull; that head of hers should be as fragile as an eggshell.

And Two-Face should heal and scar rather than constantly have open wounds, and the Joker should have his natural hair colour come through at the roots, and so on... I think it's a little late to complain about the physiology of Batman foes (especially ones who have taken a dunk into the contains-Lord-alone-knows-what Gotham River)

I thought two faces face WAS from scarring.

And besides, there's "Minor physical glitches that wouldn't exist in real life" like Jokers green hair or Poison Ivy's green skin, and then there's "Drag Biology and physics into a back alley and beat it to death with a truncheon."

Don't get me wrong, I love the concept, but even I have to admit that this is stretching it, even by the standard of Batman villains.

This is my favorite Batman comic, I guess. I mean, discounting YEAR ONE.

I just have a soft spot for this (also it's the first Batman comic that I have gone out and bought on purpose)

Actually, I like this better than Year One. That's just the type of guy I am.
