Superman's near to death after a villain with a vendetta has attacked him.

Lana Lang, Traci 13 and Natasha Irons and a fourth will have to work together to save the day and rescue the Man of Steel.

7 1/3 pages from a 22 page story.

Love the covers of this arc so much. :D

The two thankfully quickly realize the other isn't the one who hurt or is after Superman so the two set to working on stabilizing him after he goes into cardiac arrest.

The noise brings in Lana's secret service folks.

God how I love these two going WE SURRENDER. I mean sure Natasha probably can't be hurt by a bullet anyway but I love it.

Meanwhile in a tattoo parlor in Metropolis' Suicide Slum sits a a young girl named Mia who hates Superman, or now does due to recent events in her life. She's Supergirl, kind of.

I'll try to explain Cir-El as best as I can as the writing and editorial on her were so confused to almost a painful level and it seems like editorial both wanted to do certain stories with her but then decided to abort the idea halfway through only causing more questions. When Cir-El first showed up she was to be Superman's future daughter. She also had a somewhat of a Jekyll and Mr. Hyde thing going on as we later discovered Cir-El had a human personality named Mia and each side, Cir-El and Mia, knew about one another but Mia truly disliked Cir-El. Mia was depicted in two different ways. One is the above an angry teen getting tattoo's, piercings and so on and another version in the Superman title which depicted her as a much more average teenage girl who happened to look like a young female Clark Kent without any real apparent reasoning between the different depictions.

Regardless of all that we'll just call Supergirl/Cir-El his daughter and say that she wanted to follow in the footsteps of her father Superman.

Traci and Natasha have meanwhile been battling Byakko and her ninja's with only minimal success as Byakko's overpowering them easily. Traci enacts a spell to prevent Byakko from getting to Superman but that only really helps him, not a certain other.

Traci getting desperate uses her magics to possess Superman a little and fire off his heat vision, except she does it rather unchecked, having him fire at 70% of his full blast, destabilizing the building they're all in and Byakko gets out for the moment and Natasha quickly expands her armor again to try holding the building until it can be evacuated.

I think Cir-El's asking for a kiss Traci...

It's also amusing to point out that while the modern Supergirl who later replaced Cir-El was characterized early on as being Paris Hilton-y and not quite pleasant Cir-El was a very cheery character.

Byakko takes out Supergirl a moment later by somehow causing the now evacuated building to partially collapse on her though Supergirl quickly recovers.

And our issue ends as the team is no closer to saving Superman and things only get worse while they managed to remove the staff earlier during his cardiac episode Byakko manages another hit on Superman.

Dun dun whuh?

Now I already love this story because Supergirl, Traci 13 and Steel II as a team was a thing of awesomeness but I particularly love Byakko because female Superman villains are few and far between and her powers while vaguely defined were a great foil against his powers.

I'm sure two Supergirl's flying around wouldn't be too bad.

In retrospect, Cir-El wasn't a bad character. She got a lot of hate when she was created (from me too I must admit) because DC announced the creation of a "new Supergirl" at the same they announced they announced the cancellation of PAD's Suprgirl and the storyline with Linda Danvers and Silver Age Kara Zor-El. It was much like DC previewing Lois with some new guy in the new "52" while in the comics L&C were still very married in the comics. Tasteless. DC is so tone deaf on some things.

Cir-El's strange name (which is not really Kryptonian ala Lara, Kara, Allura), her doopy origin (the people who "created" her got Lois and Clark's DNA out of a spilt coffee cup) and the downright ugly way she was drawn - and written - by Seagal and McDaniel didn't help either. She was written much better in this arc by Kelly and again later on in her last appearance in the Superman/Batman book (where given her sudden retconning away makes her place alongside the rest of the Superman/Batman families look weird).

But she really was a cheery and upbeat character (the opposite of how they re-introduced Kara Zor-El - a character turn I never understood to this day), artists since have made her costume (which was quite original for a Superman character) much more attractive and her origin - as dumb as it seemed - as L&C's possible future child is not that far removed from Bart Allen (who survived the reboot even though his grandparents aren't even a couple in this continuity).

She kinda reminds me of Tomorrow Woman- cheery characters who showed up briefly then went out heroically.
