WTF?!

I get that the art isn't all that detailed and impressive, but just something about it is SO dang unsettling and hits all the right nerves in me that make me go "oh CRAP that's not good!"

I have to give it to the team at Dark Horse. They do know their "horror."
Can't wait to see how this unfolds.

I haven't been too big a fan of the Hell on Earth arc, because it seems like a lot of stuff is happening to the BRPD and such, but they haven't been able to even try much in response except fairly strait-forward 'shoot monsters where they show up.'

Yep, they've been reactive instead of being proactive like they were during "War on Frogs".

I mean, it's ok if they're losing, but I expect them to be searching lost civilizations for weapons, trying to snag artifacts, etc. etc.. Even if they fail in doing so.

I think it's kind of difficult for them to be doing that when the stakes are now seemingly raised beyond what was going on with the War on Frogs. Stuff is cropping up more and more now, and it's like the BPRD have been forced into a retreat. Hopefully it's temporary, but I understand the story structure they're setting up; We've had lots of stories with the group just going after stuff, encountering villains, and it came to a head with the climax of the Frogs/Black Flame stuff. That's had repercussions that have naturally got to be dealt with.

So at this point, I think to some degree, they've got to start picking up steam again.

Well, the stakes have been raised, but that's why they need to check on this stuff; they can't just be a monster hit squad, and they now have the resources and multinational support for a lot more teams.

I'd feel better if we saw them trying to work on leads more. Maybe have several in a row where they show up too late.

Yeah, but again, the stakes have been raised to the point where they can't go and check the smaller stuff out. Given the nature of what's happened after the Frogs were gotten rid of - to the point where a new crisis sprung up immediately, it looks as though even with their new resources, they're a little overwhelmed.

It's sorta not what I'd expect after being told they've gotten *massively* more resources, though. They expanded a bit for the War on Frogs, but this time they got a new major charter, backers and everything, and they do seem to have response teams to send to a lot of places; the characters aren't being run ragged.

And the investigation missions and such are IMO the fun parts of the book.

Johann's manifested a ghostly construct of an Ogdru-Hem recently, and seemed somewhat affected by that monstrosity in Russia. Perhaps he's been contaminated by the forces they're fighting against?
