I feel kinda dumb
Feb. 13th, 2012 07:21 pmLast week Supergirl guest starred in Superboy and delievered some shocking news.
Spoilers and a prediction beneath the cut
Namely that he'd eventually become a mindless killing machine. I was less than pleased with this. It seemed generic, trite and convienient.
Then today I realized something. Kryptonian clones always screw up. She was saying he was going to turn into a Bizarro. I'm just so used to Bizarro's being a problem with Earth technology not being good enough it didn't even occur to me.

Date: 2012-02-14 03:34 am (UTC)Remember he had the human DNA in the original continuity just because Kryptonian DNA is such a problem to clone - it'll probably have the same effect in this one.
I do kind of suspect a Bizarro will be hanging around that NOWHERE created before hitting on the idea of using human DNA to stabilise it. (IF they did, in fact, create Superboy, which has had contradictory statements about it both from the creators and in-universe.)

Date: 2012-02-15 10:59 pm (UTC)(And I think it's not officially established as of yet. But I seem to recall reading an interview transcription that strongly implied it... One of the earlier issues stated outright that he is half human, and basically said that because of the way the project was set up, the relatively nicer than most NOWHERE scientist he was talking to has no way of telling him, without some idea where to look for comparison samples and advanced DNA screening, who either of his donors is... but that while the Kryptonian pool is extremely limited, his human donor could be anyone from a Nobel Prize winner to a serial killer...)

Date: 2012-02-14 10:08 am (UTC)I mean, I'm aware of it and all, and I don't think that it was used for any kind of stories with Conner way back when (other than angst because being related to Lex Luthor was interpreted as he could potentially be EVIL, like all relatives of villains in the mid- to late 2000s), but not with the anti-clone Kryptonian thing.
I'm with ya...

Date: 2012-02-14 08:23 pm (UTC)Bizarros fit the 'clone' thing better, since it's a long-established thing that Bizarros are the result of attempting to clone Kryptonians.

Date: 2012-02-14 09:21 pm (UTC)...which Superboy is. So I'm not sure why I thought that. DUH.
On the other hand, Doomsday might be WHY the Kryptonians fear clones so much in the new continuity.

Date: 2012-02-15 04:03 am (UTC)Not unless that was retconned when I wasn't looking. (Which checking Wiki, it doesn't seem to have been, but he's also picked up Clark's DNA at some point, which is something I never knew.)
He was cloned, on Krypton, but not by Kryptonians, or from a Kryptonian - rather by a pre-Kryptonian society who happened to be using the extreme pre-historic Kryptonian environment in an experiment in forced evolution.
This isn't particularly in line with the Worldkillers, either, of course, but, still....
