Who is the Spider Titan, Bunker, and the Dark Ghosty Titan?

I am so confused by the reboot... did Batman just not reboot but everything else like Titans did or...? I'm just lost now. About everything in regards to DC.

Ghost-Titan is actually Solstice from Krul's run, having been given a power overhaul.

And basically, yeah. Batman and Green Lantern are more or less unchanged, everything else got reset.

That's not necessarily true when it comes to Batman; Barbara Gordon is the most obvious piece changed, Catwoman's been switched up to have someone pretty different, and Snyder's suggesting that Joe Chill might be just Gotham slang for a 'John Doe' killer. This is to say nothing of the stuff with the Joker - it apparently took Batman six years to bring him in once; Harley Quinn's also been changed, as has the dynamic of the various Robins, Batgirls and Birds of Prey.

"it apparently took Batman six years to bring him in once"

I don't think that was the case--I read that as it simply meaning that Joker has been doing his "break out of Arkham, wreck shit, get punched out by Batman, repeat" thing for six years.

Really, the only BIG thing I can think of that the shifting around in continuity could break is how Damian was conceived--but you can easily fix that by going the Batman Begins route and having Ra's be one of Bruce's trainers and he had a relationship with Talia at the same time.

am I the only who thinks Damien being conceived before Bruce became Batman is a crappy, kind of creepy idea. I don't like Nolan's idea that Batman might have trained with Ra's people. I'd like to think he's smart enough to see through whatever smokescreen Ra's might put around his goals and actions, and he doesn't need any sort of redemptive arc if they decide something like he agreed with Ra's actions until he learned better.

Nope--in their first story, Batman hadn't met Ra's until long after he started, and I believe Dick was in college at the time.

I think in the episode where they teamed up when Talia had supposedly been kidnapped alongside Robin he might've done some training in that ep

Ra's was new to Batman in the BTAS episode too.

Nope, Batman had met Talia a time or two (as an exotic femme fatale) but had never even heard of Ra's al Ghul until Ra's and Ubu casually walked into the Batcave after Talia had been kidnapped at the same time Robin had been kidnapped from Hudson University, and Ra's wanted his help.

Not sure which storyline or universe you're referring to so I may be off the mark.

In most takes on Bruce's training, I don't think it's that Bruce was fooled by Ra's altruistic claims. I think he recognized Ra's was evil and stayed only in order to learn what Ra's could teach him and turn that against him (i.e. know your enemy to defeat your enemy).

And I think this has been shown a couple of times in the comic canon.

Maybe someone else can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that after having his back broken by Bane, Bruce went to Lady Shiva for retraining. Shiva ordered him to kill someone to prove he was back to full-strength. It looked like Bruce actually killed a person but in fact Bruce was able to subtly alter the martial arts move to only knock the guy out. He then notes that just because he knows how to kill does not mean he will kill. So again, he'll learn what the "bad guys" can teach him but that doesn't mean he'll actually use it to harm others.

AFAIK the Nolan movie is the only one to have ever suggested that Bruce trained with Ra's. (Most writers would be loathe to contradict a classic like "Daughter of the Demon" where Bruce doesn't ever meet Ra's until after Dick has left for college)

In the comics, Ra's isn't the leader of the "League of Shadows", he's the leader of the "League of Assassins", I think the name would have been enough of a clue for a detective like Batman.

Her name is Bugg. Her powers are that she is a bug.

This is like Lifeguard's codename. She is Lifeguard. She is a lifeguard who guards lives. =P

I forgot about that reasoning--it does make it make sense for the story, but yeah, out of the two I think Bugg is much better.

That's very weird logic, people are likely to be too freaked by the SIGHT of a six foot tall monstrous human/daddy-long-legs to hand around to find out what NAME it uses.

And to be honest, people DO react badly to the skittering sound of an unseen bug. It suggests there's a nasty bug out there they just can't SEE yet.

She needs an adjective. "The Stupendous Skitter!" or something like that. Actually, that still doesn't work. Get her a new name, period.

Batman's timeline got condensed, basically, and the #1 started off fairly introductory, but still kept a lot of old canon. For some books we don't yet know how much old canon was kept really (it's still not clear, for example, what backstory they're using for Red Hood). But the teams and newer characters/books got rebooted - Superboy, for instance, got a revised origin story.

O HAI THAR NU-PENANCE

Which means I guess the part of Husk will be played by Bunker today..?

This is a cute scene, but it's very similar to something that happened in an early Gen-X issue (also written by Lobdell)

Wasn't sure what to expect when I first heard there would be some new major characters, but I really like Bunker a lot. I'm not entirely certain about some of the elements of the new Teen Titans series at the moment (not giving any spoilers, but needless to say I may or may not end up liking the changes overall in the long run), but there's definitely enough good to keep me reading for the moment, and a surprisingly large portion of that is Bunker being awesome. So much love for Miguel!

Everything about Bunker - from this optimism to his costume - makes him my favorite Teen Titan right now, next to the standard Red Robin option.

P.S. Did anyone see what I think was a Batman: Odyssey shout-out this issue?

It's good, actually. We're still waiting for a lot of background info on the characters to emerge, but so far (IMHO) so good. This is playing out against a world that is much more hostile to metahumans than any previous Titans group has had to face, which gives it something to explore that hasn't already been beaten to death (by DC, anyway).

Will it turn into a crapfest at some future point? No guarantees there. I'd say go ahead and dive in, but maybe keep a floatation device handy...

My problem with that is that it HAS been beaten to death by other companies, and I see DC doing nothing new with it.

If Superman and the like have had this little impact on the world in their five or six years of activity, to the point that the fear and hatred the population apparently has hasn't lessened one iota then it speaks poorly of them.
