"Billy, Teddy, they need you at the Avengers Tower. But first...about what you were doing..." "Look, I'm sorry, we weren't going any furth--" "I want you to--but make it fast. And sexy."
While it had one or two good moments, for the most part, this issue seemed sorta unnecessary. Other than one more shock death, there really wasn't anything here. This just felt like it could have been reduced and put in the last issue. It feels like this shouldn't have been a nine issue mini, but a seven or six one instead. A whole lot of this issue just seemed pointless. (Though I do like the fact that Rogue supports Wanda. Little out of left field, but whatever.)
So, yeah. Sadly, a bit disappointed.
(Though Billy looks cute with scruff. Didn't notice the first time through.)
This just felt like it could have been reduced and put in the last issue.
i felt the opposite! i really do feel that there was too much, at least n the way of necessary caharacter interactions?
things that had to be addressed: how will scott stand on the wanda issue from now on, how will the avenges stand, doom - was or wasn't he lying, team dealing with the deaths of vision and cassie, wanda bonding with her children, aftermath - it just feels like too much? it's not action stuff, but it's stuff that deserved to be addressed in more than two panels each? :/
You know, I havent read many homosexual romances (though I am going to change that), so this propably doesnt mean well... anything, to anyone else here, but this... I am positive, that this is the first time, that I saw scene like this and honestly forgot/ignored, that these characters are males, and just saw beautiful scene with two characters, who are in love.
On the other...to start off a marriage with one partner depressed does not sound like a good idea to me. I feel like its already foreshadowing unnecessary relationship drama between the two...
Oh god, I hope they weren't serious about that. The characters are, at most, seventeen. Probably younger. And they really haven't been dating for that long. And this is, I think, both of their first relationships. Marriage is not a great direction for them.
Although I am sorta digging the fact that it's a little similair to Scott's proposal to Jean from the Dark Phoenix Saga. Right before everything went to hell.
They are a wholesome couple who just happen to truly care for each other. They are relatively well adjusted, actually like each other as well as love each other, and when they kissed on panel, I did cheer - only to come to a bump when I realised that yeah, Cassie is still dead and Eli is gone (again).
Wasn't it Heinburg who'd previously said that Teddy and Billy hadn't ever kissed on-panel because he didn't want to make a big deal out of their relationship?
*side-eyes that last page*
Glad it made a lot of people happy, but whatevs, dude.
Iirc, people always drew parallels between Eli and Kate kissing twice, and Tommy and Kate kissing once and how it was nothing compared to the emotions Billy and Teddy were projecting out there, so I don't have any problems with people's invested emotions hitting the jackpot. Considering the YA have been around since, what? Pre Civil War? A life time in Marvel comics, and Billy/Teddy have been a constant since then.
So I won't moan about that.
The rest of the issue though... I will mourn mightily.
Teddy and Billy are an incredibly adorable couple. ...For some reason, I am being reminded of Big Barda and Mr. Miracle? >_< Anyways... these two are super cute (and Carol... did not exactly pick the best way to make her presence known, WTF), but I hear there are good reasons to be not happy about the rest of what's going on in this event, so I don't know if I'll actually be picking up a copy or not.
THERE IS A LOT OF CAPSLOCK IN ME AT THE MOMENT!!!!!!
I'D THROW IN SOME GIFS BUT THERE ARE NO GIFS ON THE INTERNET CAPSLOKY!OF!JOY ENOUGH!!!!
I felt this series could have been much more - I mean, over 2 months between issues, no one ever knew when is the next one coming out etc - but this scene made up for it.
But I'm also uncomfortable with the idea that two teenagers just agreed to get married in a big dramatic moment. If we had two 17 year old straight characters proposing I'm pretty sure there wouldn't be such universal applause. I just think it's odd that people are projecting all of these feelings onto teenagers. Can we not talk about voyeuristically watching teenagers have sex?
In my reading it played off banter, for Billy to get out of the dumps and it worked handily. I didn't get the whole promise ring from that.
Kissing=/= sex, is it? The reason why people are cheering is the fact that Billy/Teddy have been a couple since 2007 and they haven't even kissed once before today. Considering the fact that they have been committed to each other in a way that Kate/Eli and Kate/Tommy haven't been (but yet, they've showed Kate/Eli and Kate/Tommy kissing), people have been invested in the pairing for some sort of emotion.
Re: everything else in this issue: I'm legit pissed. Way to write needless deaths, Heinberg!
I've ragesploded over pretty much everywhere else, so I'm not going to do it here, but... god. I hated this issue. The only thing going for me was the couple Tommy pages (after getting barely a line per issue in all of the other eight, it was about damn time!), but I am a professing Tommy fangirl, so I'm biased. I can't imagine how the Cassie & Vision fans feel.
Everything in this issue: Although it made me angry as shit, I found it powerful. The deaths and the abandonment were unnecessary but Heinberg made me care again. Made me care about the characters that were left.
So I'm angry that they killed off and got rid of the ones I loved. I'm somehow amazed how they were able to fit it into the MU.
I'm happy with how Tommy and Teddy stay with Billy through it all.
I may be angry, but Alan Heinberg made it an amazing Swan Song.
