At the end of the twelve issue series The Fearless, Marvel leave the door open for a possible eight girl squad of super heroines being led by Valkyrie. People wondered if that might be going anywhere.



Writer Cullen Bunn, replied to comments;

Glad you folks liked the ending. Those last couple of pages were what I was most excited about. And, yeah, while there were some specific characters shown as possibilities, it was never my intention that they would be the ONLY possibilities for a line-up.

At the end of the day, I’d love to write something like that. It’s something that’s been in my head for a while and there’s definitely a longer story I’d like to tell. But if it’s something that readers want to see, they need to let Marvel know.

How was The Fearless, BTW? I wasn't interested in it at all at the time, but I think that was mostly because by the time it came out I was so tired of Fear Itself I wanted nothing to do with it.

It wasn't the greatest thing ever, but I enjoyed it. Valkyrie had quite a few awesome moments and it's funny but I thought Crossbones and Sin had quite a few "awww" moments. Which is hilarious since they are both such horrible people, yet I think they are a cute couple.

If I get off my lazy butt, I might scan some of the better scenes from it one of these days.

Lady Liberators? Hell Yes! I wanna see Valkyrie, Sue Storm, Jen Walters, and Bobbi Morse kicking ass.
Though, the Fearless, or just Liberators, is a better name, IMO. I prefer simple single word team names.

Why is it that Marvel is so bad at that? DC seems to do a much better job, which is weird considering all the...stuff that...happens. I don't know a good way to put it...

i remember reading once that dc doesn't have to be as worried about sales as marvel, so they can let books with low sales go on for longer while marvel pulls the trigger when a title goes too long bellow 20k. but idk if that's true?

the lack of iconic female characters that could sustain a solo for an extended period probably doesn't help.

Hm, I guess that all makes sense.
They seem to keep trying to get Ms. Marvel into that iconic spot, now with making her the new Captain Marvel.

right? it would prob be a dream for them if they could get that going because she carries the name of the company and everything. i think they'd need help from some other media to make her really happen.

I could see them fitting non-powered Carol Danvers in the Avengers movie. She's in the cartoon, though with the Ms. Marvel name and costume. Although, I really like the cartoon costume, much more than the Captain one.

i don't watch the cartoon because i'm not into the avengers tbh! oop @ me. is it really sucessful? i only hear of these things when they get a fandom, like young justice.

Heh, I don't really watch it either, but I've seen news blurbs that they're introducing Ms. Marvel in their second season, and I've seen pictures of her. Seems to be doing alright though.

Agreed. As I said, the pics for the cartoon costume look much better. It's basically a reworked version of her classic, with some elements of her current. I always thought her classic was the best, nice colors nice logo, and I love the scarf thing.

I really enjoy the current Avengers cartoon, enough to own the first season on DVD, but I admit that I find the quality of Young Justice better.

Haven't seen much Carol in season 1, but there was that episode where she got her powers and I liked what I saw.
Though I'm not really familiar with her comic book story so I cannot compare.

Sue quits the FF. Gets her own costume, as in the Marvel Adventures Avengers, and maybe even joins them for a while.

I would read the shit out of that book.

All for Sue joining the Avengers, and those costumes can change so that's simple, but I don't think she should ever quit the FF. I don't see how she can, it's a family, not a team.

Well... OK. I'd just like to see her form a superheroic identity that isn't completely predicated on whatever Her Husband The Smartest Man In The World If Not The Universe has going on at the moment.

Same here. I kinda tend to read FF as Sue being the main character, but I would love to see her outside that bubble. She's the strongest of the Four, and in all honesty the most intelligent and capable.

My one qualm about a new all-women super team led by Valkyrie is Sue Richards taking orders from another heroine rather than being the one who gives them. I mean, I know Brunhilde technically has centuries of experience in battle and leadership over any of Marvel's other female super heroes, but she's not an iconic figure as far as the comic book character goes. Whereas Sue is the closest analog Marvel's got to Wonder Woman in terms of importance within the super community and to the readers.

Maybe they could have Valkyrie be sort of the one who gets the mission, from the All-Mothers, and Sue could be the field commander. I think Sue could also act as the one who helps them stay together, since she's a bit more connected with the others.

I was planning on getting The Fearless once it gets collected since I'm interested in the Valkyrie character, but I might get it sooner depending on my wallet's health points.
A lady team with Valkyrie, She-Hulk, Storm, Spider-Woman and Ms Marvel? (Or should we start calling her Captain? I'm kinda lost)

Count me in! I want that to happen.

Something else that would be great aside from my Sue Storm suggestion above: have some of the team members be non-superpowered, non-aliased women, as the shot above suggests, who are just really freaking awesome at what they do.

I think a reboot of the Force Works concept, where they handle disasters instead of strictly supervillain stuff, could be pretty interesting. They could combine superheroes and emergency workers on one team.

That would actually be a pretty awesome idea. I'm sure Marvel would greenlight it if you just somehow attach the word "Avengers" to it.

Last female-driven series that I enjoyed from them was the Hellcat mini. That was....a while ago...

I liked GIrls Comics. It was a few stinkers but most of the stories were okay.
