Carol put her moonstone on her mother's grave and told Karla to redeem herself by starting where she lost her humanity.
She did have two for awhile but then Zemo took them from her and later Songbird shattered them. There was an issue with the two going through Karla's mind and getting her out of the coma and getting the stone back. I don't know if they ever said what happened to the other one.
This run on Ms. Marvel was a joke though, and as much as I love Carol if Reed had remembered that Karla can turn intangible (how can anyone forget that? That's like the ability Karla uses more than any of the others she has...) the outcome of that battle might have been different...
I don't think she stuck her hand into Karla, as much as she just, sort of, sucked the stone out of her. Even if she went intangible, it wouldn't have mattered, since she went right directly to the source.
It wasn't just the stone though it was the entire run with Karla. Not just War of the Marvels, the whole run...he just forgot about her intangibility power. All those blows she took from Carol and really she didn't have to take them.
Ah. I thought you were just talking about this occasion. I didn't really read any of Reed's run, so I can't say anything about the rest of that. Maybe she can't phase through energy fists?
Yep. She's one of the few villains I can look at and say "Yep, she's the villain of this story," and be right every time. And then she's kind of badass in her own right.
I'm rather getting tired of Karla getting away with the constant backstabbing, and there wasn't a single good reason why she was allowed back into the Thunderbolts after Dark Reign.
Yes, but Marvel likes to fuck things up that make good sense, like Songbird NEVER graduating to the Avengers when she was really one of the first ones to try taking it to Osborn during Dark Reign. Karla being thrown in the Raft and left to rot is another logical option that they didn't take because.. Hey, it's Marvel.
I've always seen the justification as being that she's a consistent backstabber. As long as you have more to offer her than the other side, she'll stick with you, and the combination of her psychological skills and her sheer power means the benefits outweigh the risk.
That, and you can't expect good decision making from people who hire Norman Osborne or Crossbones.
It's just a shame Reed was never able to write Carol with as much personality as he gave Karla. Villain or not, Moonstone as Ms Marvel was infinitely more interesting than Carol herself.
I do think he really struggled to give her a personality. I mean, to me it says a lot that the one thing a lot of people come away from his book with is the Carol/car joke, or CARol, I guess. I don't really remember people saying a lot about his approach to her, save that a lot found his reinterpretation of her time in the.. Air Force, I think? Slightly distasteful.
But yeah. I've not read all of it, but Reed had a real habit of making everyone around Carol more interesting than her.
