And thus, with no Avengers, Captain America never existed so the original Red Skull was never defeated. After the British Isles were wiped clean of life by Schmidt and his doomsday weapons following the defeat of the Defenders, he then set his attentions to the mutant population, such as it was, and they were wiped out too.

And then years later, the US, while entering the fiftieth year or so of the Second World War, now fought off both it's East and West Coasts OR in a prolonged Cold War against the Axis Powers, was occupied by Loki, who with no Avengers to get in his way uses the continental US as his foothold for his domination of the rest of the planet.

And thus, Wanda either wiped out the mutant population before it got to the modern day levels or caused the world to be conquered by spacegods and Nazi lunatics.

Or the Avengers were simply never formed. Also, it was the Invaders, not the Defenders.

My guess? The Phoenix takes control of Emma Frost and Cyclops uses this opportunity to force the entire world to surrender to their authority, promising a world in which there is no more war, discrimination, or violence, that there will finally be everlasting peace. But if any one commits a crime or atrocity anywhere in the world, then he'll sick the Phoenix on them. Thus, Cyclops, with his X-Men, essentially take over the world and the Avengers become outlaws.

Huh. So that thing about Bendis leaving Avengers for X-Men... We assumed another writer like Hickman is taking over, when really they're just cancelling the Avengers titles?

I thought "no more Avengers" at first, but it's far simpler to mean, "No more A-gene". that depowers just about everybody except for Iron Man, the mutants, and the handful of aliens on earth.

Oh lord.... I don't know what's worse: the fact the earth will be X-shape (can you imagine the physics of a planet like that?), they're going to make add in another power to the Phoenix force, or the fact they're trying to make it bigger than anything else before...

How do I know I'm old? Because I remember a time when the Avengers had only ONE monthly title. And the X-men, too, for that matter.

But when Bendis got control of the Avengers, they decided that the Avengers needed to return to their former (perceived) glory...so first we got 'Disassembled' and then the reboot, getting to the point where we could have a time where you could theoretically have 5+ monthly ongoing Avengers titles (Original Recipe, New, Dark, Young, Pet or Secret Recipe).

I freely admit to being Jaded, here. When I heard 'SHOCKING', I was thinking something that might actually be new, not an obvious marketing stunt that probably is just to renumber the comics AGAIN and will be forgotten by next year.
