Trying to find the source of this panel of Ms. Marvel and Tony Stark for a friend. I know nothing about the Marvel universe, so any help narrowing it down would be awesome!

(Also, I'd politely suggest that the image is kinda large to not be behind a cut.)

Do you know who did the art? It looks a lot like Frank Cho, and I wasn't aware he did Ultimates. (He did work on the Bendis Avengers, in 616).

It is Cho. New Ultimates was the only Ultimates stuff he did, to my knowledge.

Yeah, I believe its from Ultimate Marvel (which for me is more of an Elseworlds and a bad one at that - Spider Man nothwithstanding). I believe regular 616 Universe Carol has more taste and sense than to get involved with Tony Stark - and since writers still haven't gone there maybe they agree.

No, he's not. Ult Tony's stated motivation is to try and leave some good in the world when he found out he was dying. Even Nick Fury says everyone likes Tony. He and Peter are adorable together, too. Tony calls him "chipmunk".

It is from Ultimates, a very, very bad line of Marvel that depicts the heroes in more "modern" (i.e. shock value) settings. A few other examples besides Tony Stark making a sex tape with Natasha? They also turned the Hulk into a cannibalistic rapist, turned Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver into twincestuous lovers, and ended the Wasp's life by having her get eaten by the Blob on panel.

I can't remember if this is the source of all the Carol and Tony shipping I see on Deviantart and the like, or if it's vice versa...

Funnily enough, I never remember the Scarlet Witch/Quicksilver thing being played up for shock value, and more of an 'are they/aren't they?' kind of thing. Loeb was, as always, the one who completely screwed the pooch there.

And the Ultimate line was, frankly, quite fine until Loeb came along.

Was it Loeb who wanted to portray the Storm siblings the same way? I was facefaulting with such force that I couldn't really gather much more than the basics from eying the back of my skull when that bit of dreg was posted in the interwebs.

Hm.. Not sure. I remember Millar thinking it was quite a hilarious joke in an interview when he was doing his Fantastic Four run that he had made a gay AU version of the Human Torch and Mister Fantastic, but that's the only thing that springs to mind.

I honestly read them pre-Millar as just codependent with boundary issues, and not giving a damn what non-mutants thought of that. Then, Loeb.

What got me most about Loeb's take was that he had the Wasp - by all accounts an intelligent woman in the Ultimate Universe - and in the 616 dependant upon the take - declaring that Cap was kinda out-of-touch because Pietro and Wanda were in love. Which was.. Well, it was just odd.

Hilariously, at this point Clint walks in because they forgot to lock the door. Considering Carol is Director of SHIELD and Tony has seven doctorates, you would think they could remember something as basic as that...
