Interference is rarely a good idea and in this case it appears to have given Nu52 Nightwing the Phoenix force, and outfitted Emma in Songbirds sonic carapace.
And here's what happened...
So since (apparently) the Avengers interfered, they don't have Hope as one Phoenix entity to deal with they have FIVE each with their own personality and agenda (and none of whom are Hope!); Cyclops, Emma Frost, Magik, Colossus and Namor... Weird combination

- the dialogue for the main books = horrible. I still can't get over the line "taste the kiss of the Phoenix." that came out in #2.
- the logic between the two groups on how to deal the with the Phoenix.
Here's hoping things get better. I'm staying for one more issue but if things keep going like this...to the curb it goes.

Date: 2012-06-06 06:31 pm (UTC)I think this was partially explained in Uncanny, when the Gen Hope kids went to UNIT and he gives them his theories on the Phoenix. He believes that the Phoenix prefers order and the scales to be balanced, and when House of M and the "No more mutants" thing happened, it got PISSED.

Y'know, I'd liked the Phoenix before this event. Wanted to see more of it.
MISTAKE.
I don't know, maybe if I'd read the book I'd feel different about this, but the meh art, the meh writing, the fact that they aren't using Emma's cool Phoenix costume...
...none of it is pulling me in. It seems like they're creating a whole mythos for the Phoenix that doesn't really fit in with stuff we've seen with the Phoenix before. (Feron, Rachel, etc.) Again, maybe if I read the all the tie-ins and stuff too, it'd be more cohesive. Right now, it feels like: everyone was Hulks, everyone was Spider-man, everyone got hammers, now everyone is the Phoenix.
Also, doesn't the Phoenix burn out your body if you aren't built to handle it? Hasn't that been a huge thing in the past?
At least this makes that stupid "First Fallen, evil counterpart to the Phoenix" storyline discontinuity.

I think she may stay in white because she doesn't want Phoenix at all. Unless it doesn't mean a thing and they just kept her in white because she is White Queen. But White Phoenix was always good / Red Phoenix = Dark Phoenix. So I don't know.

Date: 2012-06-07 02:10 pm (UTC)Problem is, the story of these characters dealing with sharing a cosmic force together would be pretty neat ... if I gave the slightest fuck about any of them. Everything I've ever seen of Emma and Scott just make me hate them, I have no idea who Magik really is, and Colossus and Namor are just 'meh' to me.
Now, if they also picked some of the AVENGERS (hah, that'd fucking show Scott) and more interesting characters, I'd actually look forward to this.
