Location/Country of Origin: Mesquite Texas, just outside of Dallas.
Age: 38
Spend the majority of time doing: Drawing comics, working as wage slave for a big box retailer, and trying to keep my 99 Ford Taurus from exploding.
Favourite Writer:Varies on my mood, Gaiman stays pretty high up there, but when Dan Slott , Jeff Parker, or Paul Cornell are doing classic style comic book stuff I can be swayed.
Favourite Artist: Depends on who's style I'm trying to mimic that week. Lately I've come to appreciate the work of Captain Marvel creator CC Beck
Favourite Character: Squirrel Girl
Favourite Ship/OTP: I don't really ship that much.
Favourite Not-in-fandom-but-love-the-story: Memory by Lois McMaster Bujold (well, it is sci-fi but not in comics)

All time favourite panel/page/scene (scans encouraged):
From Sensational She-Hulk #60 Jen defeating the Porcupine with continuity.
How do you feel about DC's New 52? Never been that strong on DC anyway, though I have picked up Wonder Woman semi-regularly. It kind of strikes me as the sort of comic DC did back in the pre-Vertigo days.
Did you have a favourite superhero who was your role model growing up? Not really

Age: 46, TODAY!
Spend the majority of time doing: Never mind. :/
Favourite Writer: Can't decide
Favourite Artist: Still can't decide
Favourite Character: I'm a Legion of Superheroes fan, so I'll just pass out programs later. How's that?
Favourite Ship/OTP: And the program will have its own program, too. Multi-shipping is my anti-drug. Or something.
Favourite Not-in-fandom-but-love-the-story: I dabble in Trek, but wouldn't call myself a serious enough fan to produce stories or art.
Character Lusted After: Can I expand my above-mentioned program to a 12-issue maxi series? [sigh]
Desert Island Top Ten Comics (series/issues): Zot!, Stuff of Legend, Naughty Bits, Pickle, Palookaville, Tales From the Heart, Box Office Poison, Tricked. (I'd like to list more superheroes, but I'm not sure how well my old favorites have aged. I'd have to read them again.)
All time favourite panel/page/scene (scans encouraged): I should just break down and scan something later, I guess.
How do you feel about DC's New 52? I enjoy the new BoP (never really got to dive into the original) as finances permit. Other than that, I haven't really been able to read many new comics.
Did you have a favourite superhero who was your role model growing up? TV Incredible Hulk. (Hey, whadaya' want? I just told you up above that I'm 46 freakin' years old.)
What non-American comics do you read/recommend (i.e., manga, bande dessinée, etc)? I mostly love the old Drawn & Quarterly anthologies. I think Alan Moore's Halo Jones is one of his more underrated works. Dylan Horrocks Pickle is heaven on paper. Honestly, I didn't even know he worked for DC until I started hanging out here.
Other fandoms: Warner Brothers Cartoons. I met the future mr_cleome goofing of on their Usenet boards. How's that for geeky?
Fannish activities: What do you think this is? :p
Political Leaning: Green (U.S.)
Favourite Sports Team/Player: The New Hampshire Pineapples. (Anyone who gets this reference wins a prize.)
Favourite Performer: My 12-issue maxi series is now up to 18 issues.
Favourite Genre of Music: Jazz
Favourite Actor: William H. Macy (Actress would be Angelica Houston, FTR)
Favourite Writer (fiction/non fiction): James Baldwin, Katherine Ann Porter, Evan S. Connell, Bernard Malmaud, Katherine Mansfield, A.S. Byatt (when she isn't being paid by the word), Margaret Atwood (wildly uneven, but wins at life forever because she wrote Catseye)
Favourite Tumblr Illustrator:n/a
Someone You Admire: Cindy Sheehan. Yeah, she's still out there.
First or secondary languages? I know about twelve words of Spanish and maybe a couple of Yiddish insults.
What else are you into? Wage work/Not being bankrupt. Unfortunately, the universe seems generally disinterested in helping me out with that.
What's one awesome thing you did this year? Made it halfway through without ending up homeless or having a nervous breakdown.

As old as my gums, and a little bit older than my teeth.\
(by which I mean 45)
Spend the majority of time doing:
Drawing, looking for work, playing games, crochet, fussing with plants, reading S_D
Favourite Writer(s):
No particular favourite, it shifts a lot. Currently I like Georgia Beers, Sheri S. Tepper, Karin Kallmaker, Cordwainer Smith, Gail Simone, Robert A. Heinlein, Ray Bradbury, Jean David Morvan, Tom Siddell
Favourite Artist(s):
Again, it's variable. But I like Jose-Luis Munuera, Dustin Nguyen, Amanda Conner, Bambiii, Tom Siddell, Der-Shing Helmer, Morishima Akiko, Morinaga Milk
Favourite Character(s):
I used to be a big Koriand'r fan, but the character's been changed so much/often I barely know her any more. I like all the Batgirls, and Power Girl is pretty awesome. I also like Swamp Thing. I like Artie from Narbonic/Skin Horse and I like Naoko from Pure Water Adolescence. I also like Kurosaki from Dengeki Daisy a lot.
Favourite Ship/OTP:
Right now I'm pretty into Yuna/Rhyho from Saint Seiya Omega. In regular comics it's the Dibneys for sure. Webcomics, I still hold out hope for Hannelore/Marigold even though I know it's hopeless. Manga, Naoko/Matsumoto is just the sort of pairing I like.
Favourite Not-in-fandom-but-love-the-story:
I'm....not really sure what this question means. Clarification, anyone?
Character Lusted After:
Original Koriand'r, I admit it. I carried SUCH a torch for her as a teenager.
Desert Island Top Ten Comics (series/issues):
(no particular order)
All time favourite panel/page/scene (scans encouraged):
Dunno about all time, but lately I love this exchange from Takemiya Jin's Fragments of Love series:
How do you feel about DC's New 52?
I feel they didn't go far enough. I would much rather they have wiped the slate totally clean and started from the ground up rather than "well, we'll keep this bit and that bit, and then change these other bits" piecemeal approach. If they were going to do a reboot, THEN DO A BLOODY REBOOT!
Did you have a favourite superhero who was your role model growing up?
No one specific, really.
What non-American comics do you read/recommend (i.e., manga, bande dessinée, etc)?
Navis/Sillage (BD)
Spirou (BD)
Blacksad (BD)
Luuna (BD)
Pieta (manga)
Ebisu-san and Hotei-san (manga)
Mushishi (manga)
Girl Friends (manga)
Pure Water Adolescence (manga)
Strawberry Shake Sweet (manga)
Prism (manga)
Cat Street (manga)
Lots more, but I'll leave it at that for now.
Other fandoms:
I've been watching a lot of StarCraft replays lately, mostly HuskyStarcraft's eSports stuff, but some Day9 as well. Also, I've gotten into illustration and lesbian romance novels a lot since the beginning of the year.
Fannish activities:
Not a lot these days, largely due to budget. I'll get back to con-going and stuff eventually.
Political Leaning:
Left.
Favourite Sports Team/Player:
Sports?
Favourite Performer(s):
Another hard one, since I'm really bad at choosing favourites. But I love Eliza Gilkyson, Janaelle Monae, Punch Brothers, The Clancey Brothers, Rush, Styx, Larry Gowan, BTO, Adam WarRock, Beefy, MC Milk-Plus, Al Stewart, Frank Thomas, Amon Tobin, Boards of Canada, Buck 65, Deep Forest, The Grammar Club, Jonathan Coulton, Keston Cobblers Club, Poe, Senser, Moxy Fruvous, Mike Doughty and a tonne of others.
Favourite Genre of Music:
Folk mostly, but I'm also into electronica, rock, 70's/80's stuff, indie/alternative, IDM, nerdcore and some blues.
Favourite Actor:
David Niven is awesome
Favourite Writer (fiction/non fiction):
I already rolled some fiction writers into the other writer question.
Favourite Tumblr Illustrator:
Baysalt
Someone You Admire:
Natalie Reed
First or secondary languages?
English, I've never been good at languages.
What else are you into?
Crochet, drawing, illustrating, RPG games, SNES/PSX games (again, mostly RPG), recently got into container gardening.
What's one awesome thing you did this year?
I quit school, is that awesome?

The question is basically asking for a story you enjoyed but aren't active in the fandom. I hope that makes better sense. :)

Desert Island Top Ten Comics (series/issues):
The Dark Phoenix Saga

Shazam/Superman: First Thunder
One of the big Invincible Collections
Various X-men Essentials.
All time favourite panel/page/scene (scans encouraged): The scene in which Wolverine is trying snap Jean Grey out of being mind controlled by Mesmero. He slaps her and she hits him back. With the Phoenix. The 'oh crap' expression on his face when she lights up is freaking hilarious.
Also, Mary Marvel catching bullets out of midair and eating them.
How do you feel about DC's New 52? Aggressively meh. There's some good stories, but overall I'm not really feeling it. Plus, I was a big fan of the Super Marriage.
Did you have a favourite superhero who was your role model growing up? I didn't really get into comics much as a kid. I liked Robin on Batman TAS.
What non-American comics do you read/recommend (i.e., manga, bande dessinée, etc)? None, really. Well, Persepolis.
Other fandoms: I liked Buffy back in the day?
Fannish activities: Getting wasted with friends and MSTing bad movies on Netflix.

All time favourite panel/page/scene (scans encouraged): Honestly? "Tofurky NOT FUNNY!" from Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk. I crack up every single time I look at it.
How do you feel about DC's New 52? OH GODDDD WHHYYYYYYY
Did you have a favourite superhero who was your role model growing up? I was cliche and boring and totally wanted to be Superman. Because, face it, Supes is awesome.

Desert Island Top Ten Comics (series/issues): Gotham Central, Cry for Blood, Incredible Hercules, Sandman, Tokyo Babylon & X, Journey into Mystery, Secret Six, Cable & Deadpool, Puckett's Batgirl, Corto Maltese
All time favourite panel/page/scene (scans encouraged):
How do you feel about DC's New 52? DC hates me.
Did you have a favourite superhero who was your role model growing up? Alas I have always suffered from a dearth of appropriate role model, instead opting for relating with characters of ambiguous morality and dodgy attitudes. I did spend a lot of time while reading Something Positive thinking I wanted to be Aubrey when I grew up. But that was when I was done growing up...
What non-American comics do you read/recommend (i.e., manga, bande dessinée, etc)? Corto Maltese, Tokyo Babylon, Ooku, Fruits Basket, House of the Five Leaves, Fullmetal Alchemist, Natsume Yuujinchou, Emma, Mafalda, Philémon, De Cape & de Croc, Le Chat du Rabin, and so many more...

Fannish activities: These days, I'm happy to make icons, reblog stuff on tumblr and participate in discussions.
Political Leaning: Very much not on the Right. No very definite affiliation otherwise.
Favourite Performer: Tori Amos
Favourite Genre of Music: Most of them. I don't like metal though.
Favourite Writer (fiction/non fiction): Not sure I have one I can really call that these days... Ursula Leguin maybe.

What else are you into? Good food, tea, anti discrimination stuff, sociology & anthropology, poetry, mythology, dark & absurd humour.
What's one awesome thing you did this year? Would... moderating s_d counts? Also the comicstore newsletter? Yeah, okay, it hasn't been a great year in awesomeness.

Desert Island Top Ten Comics (series/issues): anything Avengers,Sandman, late 90's X Men or Secret Six
All time favourite panel/page/scene (scans encouraged): Banshee Versus Wonder Woman
How do you feel about DC's New 52? The fact that the Secret Six was eliminated made me furious. The fact that Apollo and Midnighter were brought back from limbo made me hyperventilate.
Did you have a favourite superhero who was your role model growing up? Storm? strong, feminine, takes no guff from no one, etc.
What non-American comics do you read/recommend (i.e., manga, bande dessinée, etc)? Daytripper by Moon and Ba

Location/Country of Origin: Brazil
Age: something close to 30.
Spend the majority of time doing: Reading (good books, bad books, comic books, facebooks, shampoo labels, anything)
The following questions are very intimidating for me; I like lots of stuff in different ways, without a clear favourite, and my tastes oscillate. So I’ll just try to focus on American-style comics, and list anything that comes to mind.
A Favourite Writer: Moore. (Alan. Wait, Terry too.)
A Favourite Artist: Kate Beaton? Melinda? The guys on current Daredevil, in the first few volumes of Books of Magic? Mœbius, duh, McKean. Boulet. Lots, really.
A Favourite Character: Loki. Constantine (the 80s one). Orlando. Destruction. Maidman.
A Favourite Ship/OTP: Arthur/Lancelot/Guinevere. Diana/Etta. Hulk/Thing. Constantine/the odd boyfriend (I want to believe!).
A Favourite Not-in-fandom-but-love-the-story: Does this mean, things other than popular culture? Mythology. Helen DeWitt’s The Last Samurai (unrelated to that movie). Ágota Kristóf’s Le grand cahier trilogy. Lots more.
Character Lusted After: Constantine. Orlando. Katchoo. Namor. Felix Harrowgate (from Monette’s Doctrine of Labyrinths). Hermione.
Desert Island Top Ten Comics (series/issues): This would mean comics I enjoy re-reading a lot, not necessarily my favorites (though there’s some overlap, of course). In no particular order: Sandman, Hellblazer, The Books of Magic, Promethea, Strangers in Paradise, Golden Age Wonder Woman, Sin City, The Invisibles, Journey into Mystery, Usagi Yojimbo.
All time favourite panel/page/scene (scans encouraged): This. This one. No harm in consented domination. Constantine hugs some guy. Lots more.
How do you feel about DC's New 52? Violently indifferent.
Did you have a favourite superhero who was your role model growing up? Not strictly superhero, no. Shun, Sailor Mercury, Kurama, Utena.
What non-American comics do you read/recommend (i.e., manga, bande dessinée, etc)? Utena! (Wait, the anime is better.) Everything by Inio Asano. Mostly everything by CLAMP (favourites: Sakura, XxxHolic, Tokyo Babylon, Chobits). Sailor Moon, the first Dragon Ball run, the first few Yuyu Hakusho volumes. Mushishi. Shaman King is underrated, much better than the anime. Fruits Basket. Berserk, with some reservations, Holyland likewise. Historie, Vinland Saga, Otoyomegatari. Death Note (the manga, NOT the movie). Every single thing by Osamu Tezuka, ever. Classic Hakaba no Kitarô/Gegege no Kitarô, if you like folklore and vintage.
Other fandoms: Classic/indie gaming, RPGs, fantasy lit.
Fannish activities: Over-the-top babbling.
Political Leaning: Left if talking to libertarians, and vice-versa.
Favourite Writer (fiction/non fiction): These days, Helen DeWitt. Lots more.
Someone You Admire: Star Wars Kid.
First or secondary languages? 1. Portuguese, 2. English, 3. Japanese. Also Toki Pona, but that doesn’t count (tan ni: ona li toki lili!). Soon will start working to make Icelandic/Old Norse the 4th. Actively interested in: Chinese languages, Classical Chinese, Classical Japanese, Old English.
What else are you into? Linguistics, humanities (literary theory, history, anthropology etc), science, art, academics in general. East Asian calligraphy. Japanese studies. Polyamory. Kinky sex.
What's one awesome thing you did this year? I’m somewhat proud of my tool to search for Chinese character etymology in various sites, though there’s room for improvements. I’m even more proud that I taught my daughter well enough that she just defeated her first Robot Master (Hard Man in Rockman 3).

There are so many ways I could describe my dislike for the New 52; It treats POC characters worse than the original mainstream universe did, it doesn't promote the lesser known titles (hello Static Shock), and basically, its just an all-'round steaming pile that I could live without ever hearing about again. Basically, it stinks and I don't like it.
Did you have a favourite superhero who was your role model growing up? The animated Storm from 1993's X-Men cartoon.
What non-American comics do you read/recommend (i.e., manga, bande dessinée, etc)?
Once upon a time it was Yu-Gi-Oh!, Dragon Ball/Dragon Ball Z, the first volume of Bleach before the soul society horseshit and the official mangas for Gundam Wing.

Kept a friend from joining the Military against his will. No slight against people who serve, but not everyone is fit for service and his parent were forcing him. He's didn't want to do it, so I helped him prepare a argument that convinced his parents to let him try and find his own way in life .

8) A volume of Elephantmen
9) Asterios Polyp
10) Blacksad
All time favourite panel/page/scene (scans encouraged): "Ultron! We would have words with thee."
How do you feel about DC's New 52? I'm only following less than half a dozen books. It's great that they're having a sales boom as a result of it and I hope it means new readers. Plus, I really think the majority of the costumes (most designed by Jim Lee) are way over-designed. But my favourite version of the DCU right now is Young Justice, these days, anyway.
Did you have a favourite superhero who was your role model growing up? Superman. Hands down.
What non-American comics do you read/recommend (i.e., manga, bande dessinée, etc)? Not very many. I've read some Japanese, such as Akira, Death Note, and Blade of the Immortal. Aside from Akira, I've just never really dug manga much. Blacksad, I suppose, is translated from French. And I also really liked a Canadian graphic novel called Kenk, about Igor Kenk, the infamous bicycle thief in Toronto.
Other fandoms: Pro-wrestling (off and on), Doctor Who, PS3. Nothing really tops my enjoyment of comics.
Fannish activities: I don't really understand this. Is this like going to cons, writing fanfiction, etc? None of the above for me.
Political Leaning: Liberal, especially a strong support for environmental cause.
Favourite Sports Team/Player: Not into sports.

Favourite Genre of Music: Rock & Roll, I guess. I'm not really big into music.
Favourite Actor: Don't know. There's no one actor that I know and think, "OMG! I must see everything they're in!"
Favourite Writer (fiction/non fiction): Simon R. Green
Favourite Tumblr Illustrator: I've never been on Tumblr.
Someone You Admire: My eldest sister. She was a great inspiration for me in wanting to do more with my life, especially getting into teaching.
First or secondary languages? Nope.
What else are you into? Yoga, bicycling, running, writing (had a few short stories published, as well as currently shopping my novel around to publishers), video games.

All time favourite panel/page/scene (scans encouraged): just one?
How do you feel about DC's New 52? Mixed feelings. I'm probably in the minority here that I don't totally hate it. There are some problematic things with it but it hasn't been all bad. Although some aspects of it make me feel like I'm back in my teens reading comics in my bedroom in my parents' house again and I sometimes have to check to make sure I haven't fallen into a timewarp back to 1992 (God I'm old)

All time favourite panel/page/scene (scans encouraged):

All time favourite panel/page/scene (scans encouraged): VERY hard to choose after all these years and all these comics; I'll exclude my commissions, because I can't pick between my babies like that. You might think I'd pick this one, but no. I'd be tempted to pick this one, or even this one but I might actually go for this one, as it's the first piece of art I ever bought and aside from being a terrific piece by a favourite artist, of my favourite character, well, you never forget your first, do you? :)
How do you feel about DC's New 52? Ambivalence tempered by occasional annoyance.
Did you have a favourite superhero who was your role model growing up? Not sure I consider myself grown up, but, though not a superhero, Kermit the Frog was always an idol
What non-American comics do you read/recommend (i.e., manga, bande dessinée, etc)? Asterix, Tintin, Saint Seiya, some random French albums I pick up when I'm visiting there.
Other fandoms: Doctor Who, animation, toys and Scottish country dancing (One of these is untrue, I leave to you to work out which)
Fannish activities: Some fanfic (though not as much as I have meant to write), contributing to s_d probably counts.
Political Leaning: Middle-Left with Liberal leanings.
Favourite Sports Team/Player: Bwah-Ha-Ha-Ha!
Favourite Performer: Tina Turner/Meatloaf/Tom Jones/kd lang (her early country stuff in particular)
Favourite Genre of Music: Rock and pop, with a heavy does of soundtracks and musicals (A cliché I know, but c'est la vie)
Favourite Actor: Peter Cushing, James Cagney, James Stewart, Patrick Stewart
Favourite Writer (fiction/non fiction): Terry Pratchett (Though Issac Asimov and PG Wodehouse are strong contenders).
Someone You Admire: A cliche to say my parents, but that's not going to stop me. If I ever become half the person my Dad was, I'll feel I'll have done all right in the world). Jim Henson remains an idol after lo these man years.
First or secondary languages? English primary, vaguely tolerable French
What else are you into? Family and friends. My church (As a gay Catholic I have issues with some of the issues, as you might imagine, but the faith has been a source of tremendous strength in the past), my job... being the best son, brother and uncle I can be, and trying to be as decent a person as I can (Which is bloody tough given the raw materials!)
What's one awesome thing you did this year? I'm not sure I'd ever be the best person to ask what counts as awesome.

Date: 2012-06-18 09:27 pm (UTC)Other places we can find you: I have a twitter and a tumblr
Location/Country of Origin: The Scottish part of Britain
Age: old enough that thinning hair and growing waistline are a pressing issue
Spend the majority of time doing: Working, and pretending to work
Favourite Writer:I'll pick up most of what Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa writes, and Jonathan Hickman, when he doesn't make me feel like I am stupid, is thrilling
Favourite Artist:Loads. Steve McNiven, Frank Cho, but mainly Phil Noto.
Favourite Character:Ms. Marvel. I identified with her when I was grown up, had finished university and didn't know what to do with myself. But you all know that already.
Desert Island Top Ten Comics (series/issues):I have read Ex Machina: The First Hundred Days about 8 or 9 times and each time I have discovered something new. There are ten volumes in the series.
All time favourite panel/page/scene (scans encouraged):
It’s from Ex Machina #11 and the story that it tells, and the way that it tells that story, is brilliant.
For the uninitiated, Mitchell Hundred is The Great Machine, a man given the ability to speak to machines. In a haze, he builds his own jetpack and decides to be a superhero, and so something useful.
He sucks at being a hero. He’s really bad at it, so he gives up.
Until one day in September…
This page is Mitchell rescuing jumpers from the WTC. When he’s speaking in Green font, he’s talking to his jetpack. He is literally begging his jetpack to give him more speed so that he can catch this woman. This panel was bad enough until somebody pointed out to me that he isn’t just speaking to himself.
How do you feel about DC's New 52? I'm buying no books, instead of 2, and I feel that line-wide the idea of what a reboot is has been handled badly.
Favourite Sports Team/Player:the hockey team that I've captained for the last 5 years
Favourite Writer (fiction/non fiction):Richard Yates. I adore Revolutionary Road and The Easter Parade only suffers by being the book that I read afterwards and not before. His short stories are pretty classy too.
What's one awesome thing you did this year? Coached a team to the 2nd round of the Donald Dewar Debating Championship, and really could have made it to the 3rd round with a different judging decision
What question do you wish we asked? Where did you go?

All time favourite panel/page/scene (scans encouraged): Maybe Rogue kissing the plane window?
How do you feel about DC's New 52? Let me tell you how many fucks I don't give: all of them.
Did you have a favourite superhero who was your role model growing up? Rogue. SEX ISSUES
What non-American comics do you read/recommend (i.e., manga, bande dessinée, etc)? Cobra is an AWESOME recent manga find - super-sexy bronze ageTotal Recall-style space piracy. I skipped a bunch of college to read Death Note which I don't regret, and I'll spend a day reading Moomins in a vegetable patch any time. Freak Angels and any of John Allison's back catalogue are webcomics definitely worth reading. Lucky Knisley's Stop Paying Attention is perfect, and Emily Carroll is a Great.
Other fandoms: I burnt out of fandoms after spending my formatives sucking Harry Potter through the nose like I was drowning in mud
Fannish activities: Mostly judging things harshly on the ole blog, or being enthusiastic about Kamen Rider costuming to an audience of none
Political Leaning: Up the Greens
Favourite Sports Team/Player: ..Robin.. Hood?
