Considering the crowd these guys are trying to keep and represent, they probably assumed calling themselves the Black Arrows might be considered racist.
Ann Nocenti seems to be less of a downer now than in her late 80s DAREDEVIL run. While she was writing the book, Matt Murdock went from "grim and gritty" to "clinically depressed."
Think it's possible we might get some entries here of her Daredevil run? I've heard that she took over after Miller, but I don't think I ever saw any of it outside of some random pages where DD grabs a kid's skateboard and does flips n' shit with it.
Another thing that people forget about the Robin Hood myth was that the reason why the people were so poor in the first place was because of rampant government corruption and massive taxation.
That said, this does look interesting. I dropped off this with the last issue, but between this and the news of Nocenti going on Catwoman I might give this another shot.
That being said, a lot of the rampant taxation was down to Prince John having to pay for the Crusades that the absent King Richard kept fighting, and it was his return that Robin Hood was fighting FOR (Though Richard hated England (at least partly because of the weather) and only spent six months or so there out of his ten year reign)
It's like, instead of actually taking a pragmatic look at the state of the world today, they just glanced at a few headlines and then made a comic about it.
Yep. This is what I remember of Nocenti from her eighties heyday: an ax-grindy approach to social issues that would make the most shameless message-episode writer of Star Trek TOS' third season blush.
Wonder WOman has to be younger than 33 because the Amazons trips out to raid ships for men occur three times a century and she has never participated or even knew about it..
GA seems to have a very narrow take on a popular folk legend.
According to many versions of it (including most of the pop culture ones around now, which are just as valid as folk tales as anything older) Robin Hood DID redistribute the wealth he stole.
Totally. It reminds me of an earlier arc where a bunch of Super-Villians post their crimes on YouTube. When Arrow asks what kind of people would watch that crap, one of his supporters remarks. "Well, what would you expect with violent video games?"
After reading this I rolled my eyes so hard I'm surprised they didn't fall out of my head.
The whole concept of "you have lots of money, so you should be giving it away to others" has always annoyed the crap out of me, mainly because even though there are lots of people that are born into it or whatever, there are plenty who have gotten as rich as they are by working their ass off their whole life. Who are you to tell them what they should do with what they earn? Also, if what the guy in the scans was saying is true, the money is for a charity event. So yeah, they helped someone from getting their home taken away, but they basically stole from a charity to do so. Nice job, guys.
Lastly, that kid on the bike. "What the hell are you doing for the people of this city?". Holy crap, what is this, the Marvel Universe all of a sudden? Honestly, sometime when a super hero gets asked stuff like that, I'd really like to see them just turn it around and be like, "Oh, you know, I've been going around risking my own life to help people and like, defending the world whenever it comes under some alien attack or whatever. And I don't get paid for it or anything, I just do it out of the goodness of my heart. What have YOU done for the city today? Rode around on your bike and made snarky comments about stuff? Yeah, that's what I thought. Feel free to GTFO."

Founded by girl geeks and members of the slash fandom, scans_daily strives to provide an atmosphere which is LGBTQ-friendly, anti-racist, anti-ableist, woman-friendly and otherwise discrimination and harassment free.
Bottom line: If slash, feminism or anti-oppressive practice makes you react negatively, scans_daily is probably not for you.
