Went out to my LCBS on Saturday, and lo-and-behold, missed the Trek/Who crossover #3. Was able to order it though, so I'll have my hands on a spare copy in a couple weeks.

While I was there, I saw this on the rack. There were tribbles on the cover. I knew what had to be done.

Still trying to break in a new scanner guys, so please forgive the oversized images. Feeling out the new software abit yet. But at least everything dosen't look like it's made of stripes now, like <A HREF="http://scans-daily.dreamwidth.org/158382.html#cutid1">this klingon getting punched in the face by a tribble-suit.</A>

(I think I'm butchering something with HTML code.  Can someone give me a hand here, please?)

Aside from Scotty, I can't read any of the regular cast in the book without hearing the classic voices.  Maybe because Simon Pegg is manic.

At this point I'm going to skip to the end of the book.  What's going on though is that the Enterprise picked up Klingons, and they're investigating where they came from to see what they're up to.  Which leads to getting chased by tribble-eating predators.

Yeah.. I'm definitely going to pick up the #12 next month.  :)  I think those purple rocks behind the golden gate are a magma-upwelling from Nero's crust-penetrating laser.  Nice catch on geologic continuity.

The Glommers (Tribble predators) showed up in the "More Tribbles, More Troubles" Star Trek Animated Series episode, though not as big as these ones.

I know this is the new Trek timeline, but given their obvious research I wonder why they gave Scotty a NEW nephew since he had Peter Preston in Star Trek II (he didn't make it out the other end of the movie, but never mind)

because Peter Preston should have been a child at this point?

Just the fact that other people remember Glommers and Peter Preston makes me feel that here, I am among my own kind.

I'd have to read the issue, but I'm having trouble figuring out how a tribble predator would be any threat to humans. Consuming your fill of slow moving, prolific furballs isn't exactly an evolutionary challenge. On the other hand, if they're predators of other species and also happen to like a nice gulletful of tribbles to top off a meal, that's more reasonable.

Oh honey, that's not even scratching the surface of the s_d combined geekiness which is actually large enough to generate it's own gravitational field!

IIRC Klingons engineered the glommers we saw, it could be they used the big ones as a template to allow for smaller Warbird portable versions to drop onto tribble infestations.

Or, as you say, glommers see tribbles like humans see bacon bits.

I have noticed this about s_d, yes. Remembering the Glommer is still pretty impressive. And you're right, it was a Klingon engineered creature. But the relative size and body type of the Glommer made sense for a creature that would sustain itself entirely by preying on Tribbles. From the size of the creatures in the panel above, they'd be scooping up a lot of Tribbles in each mouthful. As I think about it some more, that could fit in with those trunks with tentacled appendages on the end. But the most likely threat such creatures would pose to humans is by sitting on them.

Show of hands...

Who else looked at that first scan and thought "Shatner's toupee?"

It actually made me think of this from a story in "Least I Could Do" (where they're visiting the Star Trek Experience in Las Vegas)

Actually I thought it was quite nice of Nero to remember that the former U.S. had, according to one song, "purple mountains majesty".

...He just took it more literally than most...

Okay, stupid question: WHY did Scottie send a Tribble to Earth? I mean they are a potentially dangerous alien species.

I mean look at that! They've singlehandedly conquered San Fran!

He bought it from some trader as a present for his nephew back when he was still on the Delta Vega outpost.

He didn't know that it was capable of reproducing until they visited this planet

More a new continuity based off of the warped timeline started in the newest movie. The original adventures of Shatner Kirk still happened... only in another universe (the universe that the Star Trek Online game is based, in the years following DS9 and Voyager).

The only captain who remains in the "main" continuity at this point is... Archer from the show Enterprise! HA!

I like the idea of Gary Seven having to come forwards in time, meets movie-timeline Kirk and go "But you're not Kirk.... he wore a girdle... and a toupee..."

Heheheheh...yeah, I'm enjoying this series. Favorite line was Scotty bellyaching about the Klingons. You just know he was serious about it too.

See, I don't have a problem paying $4 for fanfic when it's fun-as-hell, well-researched fanfic. ^_^
