Ugh this series as a whole is a big mindfuck. What the hell did Marvel have against women here? Unless they're obscenely overpowered (Phoenix), they either get a boot to the face (Namorita) or a fake victory (SW or Storm in the last post).

Sucks to be Iron Fist though. Realizing you're up against the Invisible Woman? Talk about one sided. Also, how did Wonder Man lose to Black Widow? It boggles the mind.

The victories are definitely weird, but not along gender lines, AFAICT. I'm pretty sure Scarlet Witch legitimately beat Cable, it's just that he was able to work out what was going on as she did so. And, as aforementioned, Black Widow beating Wonder Man (with a chokehold, apparently? Wut?) For that matter, Tony got a boot to the face too.

I'm not entirely sure what Thor was doing here, though. Was he using his Asgardian lungs to just suck all of the oxygen out of Storm? That's pretty brutal.

he also went against rachel in watxm very recently. with the way the event is going, i was half-expecting iron-fist to actually beat her, but luckily someone realized that would be way too ridiculous.

Except for the Black Widow. And the Invisible Woman. And the Scarlet Witch, as I'm pretty sure Cable was just going to beat the crap out of her and try to solve things himself until she hex sphered his ass back to the future.



I think it had to be executive meddling, though, because otherwise Claremont probably would've ended up with only women in the final round.

The Storm vs. Thor fight reminds me of one of those scenes in movies/tv where the characters are pretending to be in conflict with one another to fool/get the attention of a third party; consequently they behave in a very dramatic fashion to make the audience chuckle, or to let the audience know it's all a joke...

I think it is a holdover from when Jim Shooter was Editor-in-Chief, and he had an "Every comic is someone's first" policy. That resulted in somewhat drawn-out speechifying about each characters powers.
