X-Treme X-Men #1
Aug. 2nd, 2012 03:13 pmSo... X-Treme X-Men has just started last week. The concept - Dazzler & a team of alternate reality X-Men reality skipping - is a little bit "why not, but why?". Then again, coming as it is in the middle of the mess that is AvsX I found it to be a breath of fresh air, with Pak in great form using the sort of good natured humour he does best.
First he re-introduce us to Dazzler

And then there's the jumping to the other side of the looking glass...

... and introducing the team...

... and setting us a mission

:D

Date: 2012-08-02 01:36 pm (UTC)When was 616 Dazzler ever a drug addict?
Lil Kurt reminds me of X-Men Evolution Kurt, and that's a GOOD thing.
Some nice inter-world zingers there, love the accordian comment!
Also like that Ali is the one to immediately point out that they have no evidence that Xavier-globe is actually telling the truth, apart from the recommendation of an Emma Frost... which is hardly going to win any points, especially given that the first time the X-Men ever met Dazzler, she'd just had her major, New York, headline act debut be interrupted by a squadron of Hellfire Club guards intent on capturing her, and the X-Men who were in the audience.

I saw someone raise this objection somewhere too. Seems likely to be a confusion with Ultimate!Dazzle. OOops.

I do not view this as a bad thing!
Especially divorced of some of the baggage the later runs had (EXiles is best when it's a team bumping around, not when they have a base in a crystal palace).

Date: 2012-08-02 03:03 pm (UTC)That was pretty much my thought exactly when reading this. I mean, it was sorta interesting, but not really enough to get me to want to read more of it.

Date: 2012-08-02 08:14 pm (UTC)Hey, as far as I'm concerned comics are best when founded on the principle of 'why not?'. If you can't come up with a good reason for 'why not', I believe you don't really need a why.
And also, if this comic has a japanese man in a hat, trenchcoat and glasses who blames Dazzler for all the problems she encounters, It will be the greatest X-book ever.

Date: 2012-08-04 01:46 pm (UTC)The only complaint I have for this is that it's obviously another Exiles comic under the X-Treme name. Sell it if you got it, certainly, but I was always sort of fond of Claremont's run on the title. This is giving me misty-eyed nostalgia.
Also Little Kurt makes my heart melt. Reminds me of Evolution Kurt.
