Explains how Wonder woman have the ability to fly I guess.

Apparently the bracelets are actually there to restrain her natural divine abilities. When she takes them off she utterly owns Artemis, who previously way way out classed her.

Zola gives birth and the baby is taken by a unlikely suspect Hermes. Also Hera is made mortal by Apollo when he took over Zues thorn as king of the gods.

Funnily enough, the concept of the Bracers as Power Limiters was used much earlier. In the second Project A-Ko movie. Which is hillarious because the title character with said power limiting bracers is jokingly hinted to be the daughter of Wonder Woman and Superman (as an explanation for her absurd strength).

And that makes me giggle.

It also comes from the golden age as well, where its revealed that if Diana's bracers are removed she becomes an out of control berserker.

So the idea of Wonder Woman's Bracers as power limiters is not new.

Indeed, even the old Super Friends comics mentions that, when Scarcrow gives her metallophopbia so she has to remove her tiara, bracelets and lasso, which he thinks will leave her relatively weaker, but which in fact brings on her berzerker fury and he ends up having to cure her or she'll kill him.

Ditto Andromeda Shun in Saint Seiya, whose Cloth wasn't an amplifier, but a limiter.

Also, Samurai Ranger in Power Rangers: Ninja Storm, who had a Super Samurai Mode, which involved him taking off his jacket, which usually dented the cement it landed on. :)

WOW.
I AM CONFUSED AND INTRIGUED.
I really think I'm going to have to start reading this. I guess I'll have to pick up the #0 issue at least. Then get get the full series when I'll slightly less broke.

Also, indulging my grudges based on reading a bunch of Greek myths in junior high; Take that Hera, that's what you get for being a terrible person to Hercules! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

The previous person said that they didn't like Hera when they were in a Greek Myth class, so I was saying, considering her actions in the book, the person would definitely hate her there.

I loved Greek myths as a kid, had the book next to my bed, read it all the time. It was a heavily cenzored version of course.

Wonder Woman's true name of Diana is the Roman name for Artemis, Greek goddess of the hunt. And Orion is known as a great hunter from Greek mythology. WHICH MEANS!!!

....

That I am over-analyzing this comic :P

But I'm a comic book geek. And darn it over-analyzing and wild mass guessing is part of the fun!

"You let'im?"
"It didn't seem important"

The SYMBOL OF JUSTICE! She'll let some guy who used three innocent women with his magic and later murdered them at once take the throne! Oh, she'll stab the hand of a monster for merely making cracks at hurting a baby, but murdering three innocent women? Meh, he can have the throne.

I'm starting to think that Wonder Woman has a competence issue, because she is not getting anything done.

Oh, and she's not gay. She loves everyone, but loves women a lot less. Fitting considering that this book is going through such great lengths to diminish every potential female and throw her nothing but male allies.

Date: 2012-08-16 05:43 am (UTC)
From: [personal profile] gtrout
I don't have that issue at hand, but... does she know anything about the three women? She wasn't there for that, was she?

Hey, if you want to give this new symbol of justice more reasons to not give a crap about anything, be my guest. She also doesn't seem to care about punishing Hera, the one who killed her mother and turned her fellow Amazons into snakes AND IN THAT VERY ISSUE tried to kill Zola and her unborn child. Instead she vows to punish the guy who just kidnapped her child. For someone who was her ally from day one, you would think that maybe she would consider the possibility that there was a reason he did this outside of being a complete jerk.

You're getting kind of weird here. Hera has been depowered and made mortal, what do you want Wonder Woman to do to her now that she's no longer a threat? Hermes kidnapped a woman's newborn baby, being an ally doesn't give you the right to go around snatching newborns away from their mothers.

I gotta say, as someone who's never been a WW fan, this series has made her VERY interesting to me.

I also like how Chiang has(unlike, say, oh, Jim Lee) consistently avoided hackneyed female body types. Especially Diana and Hera. Diana being built like a bruiser, Hera having extra weight on her.

Well, I'm not going to start reading this book anytime soon.

Hate the New Gods.

You know I saw a preview to one comic and it described Wonder Woman as the only daughter of Zeus and Hippolyta. I don't think many illicit affairs result in multiple kids, and I almost thought it said Zeus and Hera. I'd almost prefer that. Make her a full god given to mortals for some reason

AAAGH WHY IS THIS WONDER WOMAN WHY

OK, I was already thinking about, how if I were writing the book, I'd just explain this away as a dream sequence or some kind trick by a reality warper, but the, "take off the bracelets to own the goddess Artemis with unleashed Zeus powers," pretty much clinched it.

I mean really.

I'm not saying it's bad.

It's just bizarre.

And of course any time you do one of these massive rewrites of the Olympian-gods mythos, you put the next writer on the spot. Does he continue with your changes, or throw them out?

Which is why I wish they'd just do this stuff as self-contained or something, instead of as yet another contradictory version of Wondie and her world.

(And of course I hate Apollo being made a baddie anyway.)
