O Human Star (by Blue)
Aug. 17th, 2012 11:46 pmAnd here's a comic that's been delighting me with its lovely art style, its sweet characters, and its fast updates:

And when he goes to find his old research partner, Brendan, he finds a teenage-girl-synthetic-human who looks a LOT like him.
Incidentally, this wasn't one of the comics I found on my little LGBT webcomic run, but that didn't stop it from being one of the really good ones.
Deals with LGBT themes, including a transgender character and... well, you'll see.
We start with Alastair waking up. When he goes outside, he finds himself led away into a car, by people who say they'll take him to Brendan.

They sit down and talk about the day's events. And how Al remembers everything and feels exactly the same as... before.
But Brendan has no idea who brought Al back.

He walks out. Just for a little while. And he meets her properly.

Brendan tells Al to stay, even if just for the night. He does, and, well, things move along from there.
So far, I'm struck by how sweet and poignant this is :) And the art style, as well as the blue hues, is lovely. There are flashbacks that are hued in red. It's all really quite nice.
And then in the extras, there's something that might make you smile and tear up a little.

Man. I'mma cry.

Alastair Sterling was the inventor who sparked the robot revolution. And because of his sudden death, he didn’t see any of it.
But then he wakes up, 16 years after his death, in a synthetic body identical to his old one.And when he goes to find his old research partner, Brendan, he finds a teenage-girl-synthetic-human who looks a LOT like him.

Date: 2012-08-18 03:18 am (UTC)I usually don't stick with webcomics unless 1) I really like them or 2) they're really funny.
My humor is very low so I usually just post the first category.

Date: 2012-08-18 01:18 am (UTC)From what I can gather, there is some kind of a romantic history between Al and Brendan, and Brendan suspects that Al himself might be struggling with his gender identity?
I love LGBT May-December romances. There never seem to be that many of them portrayed.

Date: 2012-08-18 03:24 am (UTC)As for your theory, I had exactly the same one... then I went to the EXTRAS page of the webcomic and confirmed it :) But there's still tons of backstory, like what happened? Did they stay together before Al died? And how did Al get brought back? It gives a lot but it still keeps you asking the good questions.
