I feel like Hera would go nuts on twitter. No, 140 characters would be too short, Facebook. "Attention adoring masses, the 'Iced-cream' I recently consumed was found satisfactory, indeed delectable. I remain stunning and amazing. Further updates as they come."
Oh, get a freaking clue Diana. You seem to have a thing for bringing along evil people in your company that you yourself will respond violently towards.
jeyl, I think I've seen you comment everytime scans of the DCNu version of Diana appear and you never have anything positive to say.
It's obvious you strongly dislike this interpretation of her character so don't you think you're setting yourself up for failure whenever you look at these type of scans?
Why do you keep looking and commenting on these scans if its just going to make you unhappy?
Despite my defense above, I have to wonder if you actually read the pages, given Diana defends needing to keep Hera in her company, and doesn't seem inclined to act violent toward her at all - given she's just as much a victim of a scheme as Diana's own mother is, and Diana could easily just snap her like a twig given Hera's mortal, now.
lol hey Dionysus likes GOOD drinks. also isn't he the god of Reveling (sp)?
some one drinking and wallowing is not exactly what he is known for, drinking and partying to forget ones sorrows, yes, but not drinking cheap wine and wallowing in filth.
In fairness, that guy could be either Dionysus or Ronnie James Dio. All we know is that his nickname is Dio. And yes, Ronnie James Dio is an ageless immortal. Not a lot of people know that.
Someone above drew parallels between Hera and Rarity. I have to agree with that and I have a weakness for hilariously melodramatic characters so I rather like this Hera as well.
I mean the first time she appears she looks like she's got an ice cream cone in one hand and raising the other in the air like she delivering Hamlet's Yorick speech. But with ice cream instead of the rotted skull of a court jester. And yet no less dramatic or serious in her pose and language.
Not related to the scans, directly, but something that occurred to me while reading Batwoman:
I like this book a lot (which is weird since I'm usually bleh on Azzarello), I don't mind the origin change too much, and I actually think this whole god business has been really intriguing stuff, but the most unfortunate thing about the whole "daughter of Zeus" thing is something that Azzarello himself probably didn't anticipate. I'm sure in his mind, it wouldn't have changed much, status-wise, she's still going to be Wonder Woman and Diana of Themyscira.
But ever since the reveal, Wonder Woman is now chiefly known and referred to as a demigod rather than an Amazon warrior. Look at Batwoman. Kate keeps going, "Wow I'm fighting alongside a DEMIGOD" and people they encounter keep going, "Oh, you Diana? Daughter of Zeus, right?"
Previously, I just thought that her Amazon identity being overwritten by her newfound Olympian ancestry is more of a philosophical effect, that it compromises her standing as feminist text, but now I'm starting to think that it's compromising her in-story rep in the DCU, as well. She's no longer known as "Wonder Woman, Amazon warrior," she's now "Wonder Woman, Greek Demigod" to all the other characters. That is now her calling card.
i might agree... except for the fact that Diana herself still see's herself as first and foremost, and Amazon. also issue zero focused mostly on Diana the Warrior.
I don't think being the child of Zeus undermines her status as a feminist heroine, so long as she's not only defined that way. She's always been portrayed as a capable hero with positive characteristics who happens to be a woman. That's what makes her a feminist hero, not the fact that she comes form the island of Amazons.
I always imagined the "Made of Clay" origin as a amazonian "The Stork Brought you" The thing about her being Zeus's child gets me because it's generic. Who isn't Zeus's kid? It was always my personal continuity that diana was Hyppolita's child with Hercules. In the myths Hyppolita was Ares daughter, so she was a pretty powerful demi-god in her own right. Their child together being a Demi god on one side and a demi god on the other would have some substantial power. Add in Athena, Artemis, Aphrodite, and Hera's blessings and Wonder Woman's near invincible powers set start to make a lot of sense. I've been digging this reboot so far. Way before the DCnU reboot I wrote an article about the issues I had with the mythos of Wonder Woman. (Here if you want to read it: http://theepicbeyond.com/blog/2011/06/nerd-rage-wonder-woman-has-too-many-problems/ ) I feel like covering most of my complains. I particularly like the way they've made Wonder Woman especially benevolent
You'd think that after thousands of years of pointless petty squabbling that the gods would have mellowed out a bit.
When Ares made that jab at Apollo about Athena/Justice not being there, Apollo acted like it was the first time he's ever been insulted by one of his siblings. Come on, after centuries of feuds and insults, they'd either be used to it or tired of all that BS and grown up a bit.

“Go back,” said Granny. “You call yourself some kind of goddess and you know nothing, madam, nothing. What don’t die can’t live. What don’t live can’t change. What don’t change can’t learn. The smallest creature that dies in the grass knows more than you. You’re right. I’m older. You’ve lived longer than me but I’m older than you. And better’n you. And, madam, that ain’t hard.”
-- Granny Weatherwax to the Queen of the Elves in Pratchett's "Lords and Ladies"
A strange part of me feels bad for Hera here. She lost her power, immortality, her husband, prestige, was betrayed by her step-son, spit on, and had her ice cream trashed by her husband's baby-mama.
Yes she hasn't been a good individual but when presented out of context, someone who just discovered ice cream, a part of me wibbles for her.
Is it me, or is Diana notably darker here? Maybe it's something that I've missed because I haven't really followed the title, or maybe it's just colorist's fiat.
No, it's consistent with earlier issues. There's a slight difference, due to slightly different colouring styles, but within that variance, it's consistent.
It's inconsistent with Justice League, where she's coloured fairly pale, but Wonder Woman has consistently given her darker skin.
Her Batwoman appearance is closer to Wonder Woman - it's objectively lighter than in Wonder Woman, but when compared to Chase or Bette (the white girls who are less gothic in hue than Kate that appear in the same issues), she's the darkest of the three.
If she's appeared anywhere but those three books, I either never read the appearance, or am blanking on it.
