I recall back during the last Weapon X series, Sauron was part of the team and his human side had control of his powers.

That looks suspiciously like Movie Azazel and I can't say I'd hate that.

That WXM cover looks interesting. Kid Gladiator all decked out and rocking an attitude, looking like some sort of tinpot dictator, Mystique looking all teacherly, and Sauron looks to have become exactly the sort of thing I want in my comics. And is that Azazel or Mephisto? I'm thinking that it might be some version of Nightcrawler, given that he's got a bunch of miniature duplicates like the Bamfs, but the number of fingers on his hands are wrong. Still might be some sort of alternate future version though, since that's what the cover seems to be hinting at.
On the subject of future!Wolverine though, I'm a little confused. How is it that he's that old when what is clearly Kitty and Bobby's kid looks to be a teen? Wolverine's in his late forties or so biologically, so his healing factor would have had to conk out something fierce for him to age that much just in the time it took for that kid to be born and reach puberty. Even assuming his power did fail, given the aging approach taken by Professor X and Magneto, Wolverine still shouldn't look a day over 50.
Also not a huge fan of just giving Kitty and Bobby's kid both their powers. It seems a bit lazy to make him both intangible and ice powered rather than giving him something original. And that hairdo? Ugh. It does not look good in the ice form.

As for Uncanny X-Men, I think I'm willing to accept that Cyclops might be able to see out of that ridiculous mask, but I still can't fathom why he'd wear it like that. It's not even centered on his eyes, it would ruin his peripheral vision. And is that Magneto? It looks like he's wearing Boba Fett's helmet and since when is he a muscle man? I get that at this point Magneto just doesn't age, so I can accept him being pretty built, but that's just too built, and somehow I think that Magneto wouldn't be so crass as to go sleeveless. His classic costume is fine, if they needed him to look more villainous or antiheroic they could have just given him back the old school helmet with the horns and the shadows over his face, which I actually quite like.
And am I the only one getting a sort of Moss from the IT Crowd vibe from the kid on the left? The hair and the goggles are really making me think of the character.

Anyway, shouldn't he either just have one of his parents' powers or a combination of the two? Like, the ability to turn into and control vapor? (Aspects of both powers.)

Kids from the future don't really guarantee the success of a couple. Just ask any of the Grey kids.

Cool, someone at Marvel actually remembered Dog from Origins? Should be interesting to see just what he's been up to in all these years.

It was Jason Aaron actually, in the surprisingly excellent "Astonishing Spider-Man and Wolverine" mini. He re-introduced Dog, having him hunt Logan after the, er, 'incident' with Rose. Then the weird time-travel diamonds that were the backbone of the whole series ported him to the modern day and now he's after his li'l brother again.

(Oh yes, Aaron also canonised the fan-speculation that James Howlett was Dog Logan's younger half-brother. Someone had to do it.)

So Magneto is LotR's Sauron now?

Yes. He yoinked the Ring out of the river Anduin after Isildur perished and took it to Mordor, where he gave sanctuary to the persecuted mutants of Middle-Earth (vilified by others as "orcs", "Balrogs" "Nazgûl", etc.)

Sauron, still weakened by his recent defeat, was easily bent to Magneto's will. Forbidden to take human shape again, he adopts the form of a leathery-winged creature who soars through the night and occasionally wears a pince-nez.
