Fancomics! Uncanny In-Jokes, Phoenix Problems, and the REAL Anti-Life Equation

So, Sunfire's joining the Uncanny Avengers. I love the guy, but he is not a people person.

One of the reasons I'm not really as down on Bendis as a lot of people are is because I LOVE scenes where super-people are just hanging around talking about nothing. These people have been working together for years, you've gotta figure they've got some in-jokes by now. In-jokes are inevitable when you've got a group of people hanging out for long periods of time.

Havok, Wolverine and Rogue used to be on a team back in the day. (There's an awesome scene where Wolverine comes into the house drunk off his ass and tries to explain to the X-men he woke up why he can't be drunk, because of his powers.) They've been a few teams together since then, but you don't see the camaraderie they had back in the day anymore.



I don't really believe that DC has this giant conspiracy against Stephanie Brown, but sometimes it's fun to pretend.

Also, yes, I'm aware that that's not how the Anti-Life Equation works.



So, at the end of the summer event AvX, the Scarlet Witch and Hope destroyed the Phoenix Force. Putting aside how impossible that should be, there are a whole bunch of problems that should rise from a fundamental force of the universe being destroyed. This is one of them.

And fret not, the Phoenix is a representation of that power, not the power itself. It drew it's power from potential life, but without it, potential life is still fine, it just doesn't have a champion as once it did.

Scene: The Phoenix hovers over an alien homeworld. The inhabitants gather and look up in terror.

The Phoenix: ARE YOU EATING YOUR VEGATABLES? YOU'LL NEVER BE A SUCESSFUL CIVILIZATION IF YOU DON'T EAT YOUR VEGATABLES.

The Phoenix only ever did that when it had a human host who didn't comprehend it's nature. Left to it's own devices it wouldn't, because it understood it's role in the grand scheme of things.

Is that the official Marvel wiki or marvel.wikia.com? Because personally I've always found the latter to be relatively reliable, at least for surface skimming. Also, I consistently find it both frustrating and hilarious that all the character pages are under their full civilian names and include the ludicrously finicky universe numberings. It's fantastic.
I do like Bendis' talking scenes though, I always find them a pleasure to see on here. He's done some good books over the years, but the only mainstream superhero book I think I've read from him is the first/origin arc of Ultimate Spider-Man, which I kind of hated for being ridiculously slow. But the man sure can write some conversations.

The Phoenix is the embodiment of renewal, I think anyone believing it's gone for good probably also fell for Superman being dead and Bruce Wayne being stuck in a wheelchair for life.

I'm not sure we've seen him in an off-power mode since Apocalypse's alterations so it might be hard to tell.
Then again it's Apocalypse's doing so his legs might just be technoorganic evil legs capable of shooting daggers with poison on them now.

These are an excellent batch. The Stephanie Brown one in particular is hilarious.
Rogue and Shiro has had a few adventures together (one time battling Apocalypse's Skrulls and then stuff in her solo title) and then she went around with his powers (not sure how much of his mind came along) ~permanently~ for a while. So they've definitely met.
