Lovely images, but one things slightly bugs me, Irene saying she wouldn't know what Rogue looked like.

IIRC the point of Irene's power is that she's physically blind, but her always-on precognition supplies her with visual inputs from the multiple futures around her. She'd know what Rogue would look like before Rogue did.

I think Irene is just trying to use her blindness to stop them from dragging her into the argument.

Actually, she said not to ask her about what she looks like "now." She's hinting at the fact that she sees Rogue as she looks like at other times, not just right now.

The stress is on "looks" not "now", so it's a joke about her own inability to see.

I think I actively prefer this take on Mystique to the one these days, who seems so one-note at times in terms of her villainy that she might as well just scream an equivalent of 'I'M GONNA WRECK IT!' before she stabs someone in the back.

Whilst I agree that the depth is appreciated, it's sort of confused by the fact that her character comes and goes so quickly.

When Mystique was introduced, she was a fairly one note Ms Marvel villain, then she became the leader of the terrorists known as The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Evil is sort of what she WAS back then (or at least ruthlessly single minded with little concern for others safety)

Adding the depth in, then taking it back has been sort of a trend with her repeatedly for the past couple of decades.

Don't speak so loudly, or someone at Marvel will soon decide there are two Mystiques (with one being a skrull or clone or something).

Yeah, but when Claremont introduced her, she was a villain with at least a related mystery (why does she look like Kurt?). Claremont almost immediately starting humanizing her and giving her a backstory...and then started making her more and more sympathetic.

Then, the 90s.

Since then (and especially since the movies made her a much more well known character) she's been ping-ponged back and forth, like you point out.
