The TARDIS returns them to the right place... but the wrong time.
Nope. Still lost.
While back in 1814, Amy discovers the Silence are responsible for the London Beer Flood. See, that's why the TARDIS took them to that place and time when they typed in "Lots of beer..."
And yay for not tracing show stills! This is the first time I can actually enjoy Eleven! :D (Matt Smith is a fine actor, but I always feel like he's got some really weird doll-face/flesh-mask/uncanny valley thing going.)
The Doctor and Rory as a double act sans Amy would have made a fantastic episode (As distinct from the royally pissed off duo in "A Good Man Goes to War")
actually, now that I think on it, seeing as he ended up back in what was it the 1920's 30's in new york? he probably ended up being the inspiration for Doc Savage as well.
Yeah, that was my thought, too. The show didn't seem to realize what an utterly depressing concept that was. I think I'll stick with the above interpretation, heh.
I was under the impression it was "worship" that the beast fed off of. I might be mistaken, but I think it fed off of worship "praisehim" rather than belief "praisehim."
Then again, if I was married to Amy Pond "praisehim" I might worship at her altar often.
Not quite sure what you mean by that distinction in this situation, but it was faith that the Beast fed off. Faith in a deity, in the nature of the universe, in someone else, etc...
It presented fear triggering scenarios to make it's victims invoke their belief system, and as it fed of the faith that people call on in such situations.
so nit picky of me, but the Doctor and Rory's relationship, while strained at times, never seemed that...idk, non-existent? It was fundamentally different then the Doctor and Amy's friendship, and Rory had a few insecure moments, and seemed to have a very clear-eyed view of the Doctor, and what he did to the people around him, but... there was still a friendship there. Which is something I liked, as opposed to the eternal third-wheel status of friends, family, and lovers of the 9th and 10th Doctors.
Most of their relationship was defined by their mutual involvement with Amy though. They probably would never have become friends without her involvement.
I can't think of many scenes with the Doctor and Rory and NO Amy (other than it being used as a plot point "A Good Man Goes to War", "The Girl Who Waited") after their first rather tetchy meetings in "The Eleventh Hour" and "Vampires of Venice".
So the Doctor and Rory just hanging out together sans Amy certainly has scope for good stories IMHO.
Oh yeah, definitely. They didn't have a lot of solo stuff on the show, but I definitely would have enjoyed seeing more of that, it's just that I don't think it would have been as weird/antagonistic/oh hellno. That's more of a 9/10 vibe. IMO. (There were a few more scenes of them on their own, IIRC- when Amy is initially kidnapped from that abandoned orphanage, there's that conversation where Rory admits remembering the two thousand years...it had a kind of intimate, familiar vibe. And when he's the plastic Roman, the Doctor is genuinely happy to see him, and there's that lovely conversation about crazy miracles....Amy's definitely the lynch pin, and Rory is a lot less forgiving of the Doctor's flaws, but there did to me seem to be a genuine rapport between the two of them, which is one of the things I really enjoyed about the dynamics of Amy and Rory as companions.)
Wow, this is surprisingly good. I mean, it's funny and well-drawn and directly evokes the feel and spirit of the show. It could easily have been an episode with virtually no changes made....which I consider a considerable feat.
If this team has been on the comic for a while, I clearly need to seek it out.
one of the things i always loved about Rory was that yeah, he ultimate journeyed with them because he loved Amy, but he ALSO genuinely enjoyed traveling with the Doctor as well. yeah he thought they were mad for doing it, but he honestly loved it.
