There was a time when I would have pre-ordered this just on the strength of the cast plus the writer, but I'm not a fan of Rogue's recent direction, I was REALLY hoping for some of the fifth-gen X-Men (specifically Pixie) in this one, I’ll be getting my Betsy and Ro fix (plus Puck) over in Uncanny X-Force, and I’m looking to Fearless Defenders’ rotating cast to give me more variety in my Badass Marvel Ladies fix.
That said, all you have to do is look at Wood’s recent Marvel output to know that the man gives good cameo, and there’s a long stretch of time between here and April for him to change my mind. So we will see.
I'm thrilled to see Rogue back in an X-book. Yes, she needs to do a stint in the Avengers to complete the circle, but that book isn't very well written.
Yes. A thousands times yes. My only hesitation is that he referred to her her as Rachel Grey instead of Rachel Summers. I really hope This iteration of the character isn't estranged from her dad. I really like their relationship and want to see more of it.
It's kinda weird that Psylocke and Storm are on both this book and Uncanny X-Force. But to be fair Wolverine and Iceman are in like 3 different books together and no one complains.
I still wish that Pixie or Surge or Armor were in this book.
I should imagine so, vampirism is not something I recall seeing reversed in the MU, unless you count the Montesi Formula which wiped them all out... for a while.
I'm intrigued by this, although I admit my first reaction was "do we really need *another* X-book?" I mean, don't get me wrong--I love X-Men more than the next guy. But as someone who reads stuff on both the Avengers and X-Men sides of the Marvel-verse, I'm finding myself a bit snowed under these days with all the repetition and overlap. Kitty's my avatar and all, but even I don't really need her appearing in 3+ books a month (I also can't exactly afford it on a student budget). I know it's never gonna happen, but I wish they could streamline the X-verse just a bit, especially since there are so many great characters who remain unused and largely forgotten.
I've been saying for the past few months, actually, how notable it is that the X-Men have so many huge female characters and how cool it was that, if you wanted to, you could make an entire big-league team with nothing but X-Ladies without any type of power redundancy.
BWood is an amazing writer, and Copiel makes gorgeous pages. How can you not want to buy this!? Marvel Now may have failed in the Avengers area, but they really revitalized X-Men.
Ugh. Luckily Brain Wood made Ultimate Kitty Pryde even cooler than she already was, so maybe he'll do the same for this poor fella. I dunno personality wise, as of lately she annoys me.
Back to the good, this is gonna be great. Here's hoping for some interesting character interactions.
She's had a couple of nice moments in All-New, but yeah...neither WATX or Matt Fraction's did Kitty any favors character-wise, and even Whedon's Astonishing run was pretty regressive. It'll be interesting to see how Logan's "kids" interact.
Oddly, when I was first looking over the cast, first thought that came into my head was 'Betsy? Wearing pants? Huh, I better watch out for flying Pigs tomorrow'.
Well, its not really X-MEN, but it looks quite interesting. Though, I really don't have the money for this. I need to give it a pass for now, until I can sort out some financial issues.
I feel like I should be more excited for this. I like all the characters, but I just wish the team wasn't filled with all the most well known X-Men. It feels forced. I would love to see a character like Surge or Dust in it.
My one beef is that Marvel seem stuck on Kitty as just "Kitty Pryde" in the yellow-and-black. When's the last time she was shown as Shadowcat, in her own costume?
When's the last time she was shown as Shadowcat, in her own costume?
Off the top of my head, it may have been 1994 or so. She's been wearing the yellow-and-black for close to twenty years, since Alan Davis's Excalibur run.
It is NEVER okay to hold a sword tip first into the ground when it's at rest. It biffs the tip, and if done habitually, can contribute to bowing or warping the blade. Just a cranky old prop/weapons master voicing what I was taught, and why. Blades need care and maintenance, even when used onstage or in film, let alone when your life may depend in it's reliability.
I like the lineup...Ororo and Rogue have been sort of aimless lately and they deserve more play. Also not a fan of the 'Ro-hawk look, but at least she'snot in a thong or a bustier! And I double down on not caring for the Vampire thing for Jubilee OR for Ororo, for that matter.
I've always wanted someone to write Kitty and Jubilee on a team together, since they've both spent time as the Token Kid Teammate, but putting them together with Rachel and Rogue and having Storm lead (I like Betsy well enough, but I can take or leave her)? April cannot get here fast enough. Between this and the new Young Avengers relaunch, I get the feeling Marvel is going to be seeing more of my money that it has in years.
I need this. It's an almost perfect dream line up for me, with only the glaring flaw of Kitty Pryde. Other than her in the book, this just screams "Buy me NOW". Blast you, Marvel for giving me almost exactly what I wanted.
