Holly's been shot after seeing some corrupt narcotics cops shooting an undercover policeman who'd stumbled across their own dealings...
Selina beats the crap out of the cops and spirits Holly away to Leslie Thompkins for treatment. She stops Leslie from giving Holly painkillers though, because it turns out that she knows that Holly's a recovering addict. Holly is upset that Selina knew the entire time, but Selina says that it doesn't matter to her.
With Holly getting seen to, Selina sets out to find out what exactly just happened, and while that is going on, Crispus Allen turns up at the crime see to find out the same...
He ends up setting himself up in the HQ of the corrupt cops to conduct his own investigation, to their chargrin.
Selina drops in on her PI pal Slam Bradley to tell him that Holly was shot, that corrupt cops are involved and his independant investigation might be connected. Slam says that he'll ring a source he has for this kind of thing, and they meet him at a diner.
After Slam vouches for Selina, they tell the detective what they called him over to talk about.
And if you think that it's unlikely that a police unit would do something like this... well there's the the Rampart Scandal/a> for one thing, and then there's the stuff that Frank Serpico had to deal with, which resulted in his fellow officers allowing him to get shot in the face by drug dealers in an attempt to shot him interfering with the amount of corruption in the NYPD...
Anyways, Slam says that he obviously doesn't think that the man killed himself, and the detective replies that there wasn't anyone observing the interview when he was interrogating the guy, which means that the room must have been bugged. He cop says that he suspects that there are a group of men within the GCPD who are trying, and have mostly succeeded in, taking control of the drugs trade within the East End of Gotham. And if that actually is the case it goes higher than he wants to go, so when the order came to drop the investigation he did for fear that he end up like the guy who "hanged" himself. And since he has a wife and kids he just can't take the risk of something happening to him like that.
He tells Selina that if her friend really did see something, then she should just get out of town as fast as they can, forget that she ever saw anything, and pray that no one saw were she went.
Selina goes back to how Holly is doing, and Leslie says that she's recovering well and that there shouldn't be any permanent damage from the bullet wound. Selina says that she has a good idea what's going on, but that it might be too big for them to handle on their own, though Slam offers his help, on the basis that he can't stand cops at the best of times, but dirty ones...
Unfortunately it seems that the decision was taken out of their hands, as the police have released a description and picture of Holly to the press, asking for information on this woman who "brutally murdered" one of Gotham's finest...
