Preview to Superior Spider-Man 2. N'uff said...

So far in the preview, Spid-ous shakes hands with JJ while ghost Peter lingers in horror meanwhile, in an apartment, 2 civilian women are just having an ironic talk....

Oh man, what a twist. After all the fans protesting to have Peter and MJ be back together, they do, only Peter is not Peter. Oh the drama...

Are they serious? I mean, earlier this week, I found out Doug Walker is bringing back the Nostalgia Critic and do it in a deep artsy style, which makes this BS even more intolerable... in fact I just saw last night "Cleveland Show" where he berates people calling out the writers' laziness, saying that people who complain about it are dorks with no life. when they actually hate the idea that such hack writing gets greenlighted and paid for... and doesn't see people who do complain about that into actual accomplishments, AGAIN, DOUG WALKER! AT least he gets to go to Cons on talent and not on FOX's payroll...

I mean... is this the dumbest idea ever!!! Almost as dumb as MARVILLE! This idea is so cliche. It comes off as another taunting of Marvel to remind us that they got away with such a cheap idea done in a lazy and half-@$$ stories! THe only good I can see from this is MJ is on to him and working to reveal the world the truth and either gets Peter back, or lays down a smack-down..

S-sorry about that rant there.. it's just everything with Spidey and MJ since OMD has been like a room from that trap hotel from Gargoyles. As soon as you see some promise. BOOM! A trick that just makes mad. That What If Story if OMD didn't happen, just as cheap cover thefor their excuse of Spider-Man is better NOT being married. MJ being a superhero anmed Jackpot? Someone else entirely. OMIT?  Just shows that Meph just wanted their rings when he said he wanted their "marriage" but somehow still have them broken up for... what, everything else that has happen before in Spider-Man's life? Spider-Island where MJ gets some Spider-Powers and could be a crime hero? She takes a cure and becomes normal without doing anything. And that just plain stupid "Deadpool" dialogue between MJ with Pete and Carlie just to show how much the two are alike was just both salt and lemon into the wounds.... and when you think about it, what about everyone else? How is Harry with his half goblin baby? What about the other son of Osborn who went crazy and has a Harvey Dent' complex?

Ugh...  no more. Never again

Erm...I think you might want to put some of this under a cut. Like...all of it?

Also...I'm sort of lost in your rant. What does Doug Walker have to do with this?

Ripping off jokes from "Community" now, are we? Classy touch, Slott. Classy freaking touch.

At this point, I think my feelings can be best summed up in one simple sentence: "Come back, Eric O'Grady, all is forgiven..."

Also: I share your pain regarding "The Nostalgia Critic". Yesterday I discovered, to my infinite chagrin, that the BBC's "Walking With Dinosaurs" - innovative, near-craftsmanlike documentary series and beloved staple of my childhood - has been bought by FOX. The Murdochites intend to retool it as a cheap 3D ripoff of Doyle's "The Lost World" and the initial premise of that hideous "Dinotopia" TV series.

It's "Doctor Who: The Movie" all over again...who the hell keeps letting those cretins get their hands on BBC properties, when the BBC have already shown they're the only ones capable of making them the best?

I'm more thinking the whole "You WANTED Peter to get back together with MJ! You ASKED for this! Don't blame US!" angle is the real taunting.

That and the continuing, and to be honest quite worrying obsession with trying to make anyone think of Carlie Cooper as a real character. By this point, Jar Jar Binks has more credibility than she does.

Having Peter let Mephisto erase his marriage, putting Doc Ock in Peter's body, claiming Carlie is the perfect woman for Peter, those are all legitimate editorial decisions. They may be bad decisions, but those are things that someone could honestly think might be avenues for good stories. However, I can't think of any way in which someone could plausibly claim that a character who has existed for 50 years had a characteristic phrase that he has never said in a single comic book, cartoon or movie.

Even worse, I think someone has a very wrong idea of how a spit-take works.

The phrase is directly from Community, apparently, so I guess the implication is that Peter is a fan of the show and recently adopted the phrase. Like a FIREFLY fan taking up "gorram."

The Cleveland show was specifically criticising the people who complained endlessly about the ending of the Sopranos and it's lack of resolution.

Okay, so, they finally get MJ and Peter back together...

...During a period when its not peter but Doc Ock in Peter's body.

I seriously think Marvel is trolling us at this point.

Urgh. The whole idea of MJ/Spider-Ock makes me genuinely uncomfortable. Just like, "Oh my god, how is this being published." If they go through with this, it'd genuinely make me never buy anything by Dan Slott ever again. It's utterly contemptible.
Carlie's spit-take gives me hope though, she met Peter as Ock and he tried to tell her the truth, so maybe she'll be able to figure out what's happened. Then she could put a stop to it, and she and MJ could oppose Spider-Ock. Admittedly I'd prefer someone other than Carlie figure it out, but anything that keeps that relationship from happening is good in my eyes.
Serious question now people, did anyone here see coverage of this incredibly troubling developement on major comic news sites? I didn't see any mention of it, back when SSM#1 came out, and I'm absolutely baffled as to why no professionals seem to be discussing it. Even if you don't think Marvel will actually follow through with the pairing it's still pretty despicable of them to put MJ in danger of becoming the victim of rape by fraud as a drama building gimmick. It says some pretty shitty things about the way female characters are used in comics and it's more than worthy of discussion.

To be fair, most reviews I've seen--even the positive ones--are very uncomfortable about the whole SpOck attempting to seduce Mary Jane.

Here's a quote from A.V. Club:

Octavius is a grade-A scumbag whose favorite thing about having Peter’s body is the view of Mary Jane’s breasts, and he’s taking advantage of his new body to rekindle the flames between Peter and MJ. But if they have sex, that’s tricking Mary Jane into consenting, which is basically rape. Ideally, Peter’s presence will prevent that from happening, because even if Peter is in control when he gets intimate with his ex-fiancée, the fact that Octavius will be there enjoying every second of it would make it an exceedingly unsavory development.

Another from Comics Alliance:

I'd be lying if I didn't say the notion of Mary Jane being duped into sex by someone who isn't who she thinks is still the story point that comes closest to sinking this book for me, but this scene is a step above the one we got in ASM #700, at least. There, he was this close to date rape.

And one more from IGN:

In any case, the larger problem is that it's incredibly creepy to see MJ throwing herself at a man who very fundamentally isn't who she thinks he is. The sight of a lecherous Octo-Pete guzzling champagne and ogling her breasts at dinner is just... blegh.

I think this is a roundabout way for Marvel to restore the possibility of Mary Jane and Peter getting back together, AND Petergetting his body back.

The Jackal's appearance in ASM #16 tipped their hand.

Predictions:

Because Peter has actually "died", that is, his "soul" died (what Otto is sharing withwith him) is basically a "dub" of his essence, Peter passed away, thus invalidating the contract that put "Brand New Day" into effect. Because Peter is dead, Mephisto no longer has a hold on him. That Peter is dead and gone.

I believe MJ, on some level, is still aware of the deal she made with Mephisto. Mephisto's payoff was not just the misery the Parkers felt when they realized what they had lost....the potential for little May "Mayday" Parker's existence. Although the grief of that realization was awful, if MJ had to live with the full knowledge of what they'd lost, her suffering would be constant, and over a long period...a tastier morsel Mephisto could feed on as long as MJ lives.

I believe Otto, eventually, is going to tire of living an altruistic lifestyle. He will eventually conclude that he cannot cope with being Spider-Man. It's all too much for him. The number of painful ass-kickings he is in for from Spidey's whole "rogue's gallery"is going to be too much. He will eventually want out. He may suffer from "phantom limbs" because of his mind's separation from the 4 metal limbs he's now forced to live without. The only reason he left his body in the first place was because it was dying.

Further, I think he will parlay with the Jackal to clone a new body for himself....an optimum, lean and mean version of his original body, and leaving Peter's battered body. He might try to purge Peter's essence first as an "F U" to Peter, or it may be an actual amical split. Otto may realize it is important that the world needs the best Spider-Man it can get.

With his newly cloned "Otto" body, he may redouble his great mindsefforts to be a jackass, or, perhaps, he may realize he has a life worth living as Dr. Otto Octavius, one of the world's great minds.

Having already died once, Peter would be free to pursue a relationship with MJ, free of Mephisto's bargain.

After that, who knows?
