O/t but does anyone else find Superman's cape design here to be ugly?

Yep. Although, with regards to the costume overall, I think it's a bit better than Supes New 52 costume. It does a better job of breaking up without the use of the red trunks and there's no pointless "armor" seams running every which way all over it.

This... Takes grim and gritty to a whole new level. Superman kills Lois, their unborn baby, and the entire city of Metropolis?

What's next, Joker tricks him into going back in time to personally punch every Kryptonian in the neck just as the planet is exploding? Or does he slip on a banana peel and bumps the Kent house's foundation, bringing the ceilings down to crush Ma and Pa Kent on Christmas Eve just as they're trying to put Clark's present under the tree?

Wait I know, Joker forces Superman to impregnate Supergirl, and then rigs her womb to collapse if anyone attempts an abortion so she will never be able to have children. Now Superman has to choose between robbing Kara of motherhood or have her carry their incest baby.

Haha, just kidding. That probably won't happen. It's so stupid that it would be crazy if anyone puts that in a comic.

Question:

If this is what leads Superman into starting a zero-tolerance fascist state, how the HELL is Joker is still alive for the events of the game? Or does his Joker Immunity extend that far?

Yeah....nothing should keep him or Harley alive after this, nothing and no one. But ...you know he will for the game. This just seems ridiculous and in poor taste.

How the hell is Joker and Harley even alive considering what just happened.

Ignoring the fact that other than DC saying the league has to be in the roster, and the majority is based on ed boons personal favorites Joker being alive makes no sense.

Also is anyone really surprised that a prequel comic to a nether realms fighting game would be brutal

I mean MK armageddon ended with everyone dead and the reboot killed off the majority of the cast in two cutscenes.

And yet we know the Joker doesn't die for this, he's confirmed for the damn roster!

Unless, you get to control Superman as he beats him to death in the story mode. It's Nethrealm, I could see them doing that.

Whilst I'm not happy with Lois being used as a plot device to explain why Superman goes zero tolerance on crime, I thought the way it happened was a nice twist after setting it up that it appeared that she was just going to be found with a bullet hole in her.

This. I stopped at 'he finds Lois on a operation table cut open...' alone

I am seriously getting tired of women being depicted as props that can be maimed/gutted/raped/etc for no other reason than pure shock value and further advancing the male hero's story. How do people in the entertainment industry NOT get how disturbing this message really is and what it says about women's worth in a male-dominated society? And more importantly, how do they NOT get how harmful it is to the safety of real life women to constantly recycle this message and normalise it?

I don't know how Tom Taylor was even able to write this given that he's a huge fan of Clark and Lois and even admitted that this is one of the most horrible things he has ever had to write. I would've honestly quit.

Did everything get blown up? Yes. But then Lex travels back in time with a bunch of stolen Brainiac tech full of what I'm gonna call Superpower Soup, which he releases on the world to create tons of new metahumans so they can fight back Brainiac's worldwide invasion.

There's nothing as dark and gross as Supes murdering a pregnant Lois.

Cape aside, pretty cool looking Superman costume. I like it.

Other than that, while a clever plan, I feel kind of sick now. Kind of kills my interest in the game, though that was already fairly low anyhow.

Now that you mention it....Hal's butt is pretty tightly clenched there, I thought he was meant to be fearless? ;p

And yeah that bit of evil was TOO well constructed to be depressing....it's up there with Sue Dibny being raped in Identity Crisis and Roy Harper losing his arm in Cry for Justice as far as plot elements that will just make me lose any interest whatsoever in a story and make me feel kind of dirty for supporting an industry that produces shit like this for mass consumption :\

So we learn the truth, and you guys are talking about how its God Mode Villain Sue this, and Women in Refrigerators that, etc.

After seeing these scans, I totally sympathize with why Clark went off the deep end, because my first thought after seeing this isn't about an overpowered Joker, or about inconsistencies. It's this:

"Superman. Make that bastard suffer."

So for this plan The Joker gets his hands on:

* Scarecrow's fear gas - well thats an easy one when your cellmates with the guy who makes it.

* kryptonite - well if Lex always seems to have some i guess Joker could get some too.

* A Navy submarine - Ok that one seems a little out their.

* A Nuke - OH COME ON!!!

Huh.

How does Lois have any skin or limbs left after getting grappled and rammed through the atmosphere by a raging Superman who thought he was fighting Doomsday?

Since she somehow survived that, how is she immediately and irrevocably dead just because her heart stopped shortly thereafter? (I mean, it doesn't help Metropolis either way, but Superman could have her back down to the League for power-ring-assisted resuscitation five seconds later.)

Why is this very large nuke, going off at very close range, not blinding or lethally irradiating the non-invulnerable characters? It seems to be mostly producing mood lighting and a gentle breeze.

When the Joker announces that there's a warhead in Metropolis, why is the Flash not searching the entire city for it in the next millisecond and evacuating everyone if he can't find it? Why is Hal not scanning for and teleporting/bubbling every chunk of fissionable material in the city? Why is Diana not chasing after Superman at Mach 1000 while Batman's screaming at him to stop? Is there a reason given in previous issues for why the Leaguers now have the reaction time of the noble manatee?

I like that Metropolis gets fridged along with Lois, though. Improves the gender balance.

Yeeeaaahhh, I agree that they went just a LITTLE overboard here.

See, Batman's backstory is nice and simple with his parents just being shot by a mugger. No massive conspiracy, no grittiness, just something simple and poignant.

If it was just Superman accidentally killing Lois, that would have been enough. It's cruel enough on its own; Doomsday would have survived that trip, so Superman WASN'T intentionally using deadly force, but still ended up killing someone. (Although Lois would still be fridge'd. One thing I LIKED about the Justice Lords in JLU was that Lois was ALIVE and Superman constantly argued with her.)

But the nuke destroying Metropolis on TOP of that? Yeah, now it just turns that tragic moment into a cruelty conga-line. Eesh.
