Last issue Wonder Woman provoke a fight with Aquaman. Which Aquaman uses his ultimate weapon the Kraken to fight the Justice League Of America.

Superman arrives soon after and severely injure the Kraken (bursts through one of his legs) but then afterwards deliver his threat directly to Aquaman. Mildly under Batman’s counsel to not make Superman more angry and worsen his state of mind. Aquaman reluctantly calls off his equivalent of a nuclear weapon, but instead delivers a more direct threat to the world to Superman.

Aquaman reminds Superman that the kingdom of the ocean is far larger than that of land, and that the land merely exists because Aquaman wills it. It’s delightfully egotistical but his assessment of Superman is far more to the point. This is the first time a character has come out and accused Superman of seeking to rule over the world. Naturally, Superman denies it, merely suggesting he is calling for a ceasefire and that is all. Aquaman responds telling him that his reign has already begun.

Superman has made it very clear that his primary goal is for world peace. Not a little bit of peace but actual, all-encompassing peace by any means necessary. Aquaman’s threat was one threat too many, and if Aquaman called forth the nuke of the oceans, then Superman will also effectively flexed his muscle in the most visual and extreme manner to show a ultimatum against Aquaman.

I'm really having a hard time rooting for anyone in this comic.

There is no one to root for. I'm having a hard time having any interest in anything about this project. It's a story that's been told a thousand times now, only with the JLA instead of the Authority or whoever.

You're not supposed to root for anyone. Except for Batman. Because Batman is awesome and always right! :D

I like Arthur's reasoning, here. "You've scared a lot of people. They weren't scared when I marched my troops to every corner of the globe and threatened to starve the world by ceasing all ocean traffic, but now they're scared. My threat was totally reasonable, yours was AWFUL! TOO FAR!"

So this continuity's Atlantis doesn't have any Kryptonite or offensive magic or high-level supertech or really, anything at all that might be able to scratch Superman? Props for making Aquaman both absurdly aggressive and absurdly impotent, I guess.

Yes Aquaman, go piss off the guy who has outright said that he basically rules the world! There is no way that this brilliant plan could fail!

That said, taking Atlantis and putting it in the middle of the Sahara desert. DANG, that's mean.

I'm loving this comic. It's the greatest, most glorious trainwreck imaginable.

Though Arthur's reply was basically "My kingdom can beat up yours". Who could've expected Superman to retaliate via cartoon physics?

Diana's reaction in that last panel smells of "Let them eat cake." I at least hope the writers are self-aware enough to have meant to do that.

I also notice that Diana didn't actually answer Arthur's question.

And, not seen here, Arthur goes on to say ask Diana to tell Clark that if he has decided to rule, then he would ask that Clark would seek his counsel, and to tell him he's sorry about Lois.

Wonder Woman agrees to this, but only tells Supes of Arthur pulling his armies back, even when asked if that was all Arthur said.

Man, if only Supes had some sort of power that would let him overhear important conversations from a great distance away....

So basically the most insane character right now is the one who did not suffer the heart-rending loss and all, just the one who was kinda standing off to the side when it happened to someone else?

Yeah, this comic is going out of it's way in casting Wonder Woman as akin to Lady MacBeth and therefore the real villain of the series. I mean you can understand why Superman is doing what he's doing, given that he lost Lois and their unborn child, but this series is flat-out stating that Wonder Woman not only always wanted to take over the world in the name of "peace," but that this so called "ambassador of truth" is using the opportunity of Lois' death--someone she would've regarded as a fellow "sister" no less--to seduce Superman when Lois' body is barely cold in the ground. I would think Wonder Woman fans would be outraged at how she's being depicted here.

So, I hate the premise of this book, and I hate the execution of this book, but...

It is almost worth it to see Superman pick up an entire city and drop it in the desert just as a big middle finger to Aquaman. I haven't stopped giggling since I opened this page.

As I said on my twitter account, although I can see how people would be annoyed with the character differences, people should remember that this is both an out of continuity story and an ELSEWORLD.

Getting annoyed at Superman and Wonder Woman sliding down the road to evil on the path of good intentions is like getting annoyed at the idea of the Justice Lords, and there the major thing that triggered Superman going into "Rarr! I'll enslave the world to keep them safe!" mode was Lex Luthor killing Wally West (while attempting to trigger a nuclear war).

In comparison, what Superman has endured thus far (wife, kid, most of his civilian friends and home city destroyed and his parents kidnapped), and his reaction to it, is if anymore more REASONABLE than the DCAU counterpart.

This doesn't excuse it, but getting in a huff about how Superman etc. wouldn't act like this is like getting annoyed that the Soviet Superman in Red Son is more dictatorial than the regular one, despite him growing up in the height of the USSR and being taken under Stalin's wing as soon as he went public.

Except this isn't really presented as being an entirely different world, like conventional Elseworlds like GBG or Red Son. Those stories have independent timelines and the like. Here, it seems to be very much a regular DCU up until point X, that being the Joker nuking Metropolis and causing Superman to kill Lois and their child. As far as we know, this guy might as well have been the basic, conventional Superman up until Point X, so it's not quite the same as the Red Son comparison.

Man, Superman just sounds like some jealous ex-boyfriend when it comes to telling Bruce off;

"God! Shut up! You think I didn't see you talking with Arthur?! How dare you!!"

It's almost like this version of Clark should be played by Tommy Wiseau, complete with 'How duhr yew tahk to mee like that!' accent, he's that stupid and irrational.

How is it when Superman goes rogue everybody craps their pants and yet when one of the Marvel Family- ones not named Black Adam - (who are technically stronger than Supes and don't have a kryptonite vulnerability) do the same as in Mary Marvel in Countdown it's literally treated as a joke IN-UNIVERSE.
