To celebrate, here are bits of British heroes being awesome.
First up, Dr. Faiza Hussain versus Dracula, in which the Count is attempting to annex the UK to create a vampire homeland. He figures that due to the class structure that exists in the UK they'll be more accepting of being controlled by a ruling class of vampire nobles like himself... yeah.

Actually, considering Dracula's historical title, him being exploded by Excalibur is kind of apt for the day in question.
Pete Wisdom being daft after Colossus attempted to murder him.

The Shade returns to London, and meets up with another one of James Robinson's (since ignored) attempts to expand the superhero population in the DCU outside of the USA.

A bit from the underrated Knight and Squire, where a supervillain hears that the titular duo live in a village in the South of England somewhere, and travels there to fight them on their hometurf. Only to find that the locals don't like that kind of thing....

And from their first issue, where we're introduced to the wonderful world

And from Batman and Robin, a fantastic couple of pages from Cameron Stewart, though I can't for the life of me figure out what route they're meant to be taking exactly.

From Garth Ennis' Dan Dare, Dr Penelope, acting Prime Minister after it became apparent that the previous one had sold out Earth to an alien dictator in exchange for a position of power after the invasion, talks about why Dan left Earth to live on an asteroid.

Why is this more true now than several years ago when it was written? Bah!
And finally, Dan meeting the aforementioned Dictator, the Mekon, and Prime Minister.
