The System is Now Online
Apr. 24th, 2013 09:41 pmSo Avengers 10 came out today with the team going to Canada to try to figure out what happened to Omega Flight. They had gone to check out an event site that occurred there before they all met their death and lost contact with the outside world as the site had formed a dome around the area (note: one of the members was named Boxx; really hope it's not Madison "Box" Jeffries as I'd like him to pop up in an X-book. He and Nemesis were always great together).
Upon entering the site (as it was sealed shut, they had to use Eden) the Avengers meet the only surviving member of Omega Flight, Validator, who changed somehow when she came into contact with the environment. She uh, then does this:

I like how Eden and Smasher, the newbies, are all freaked out while their more seasoned teammates are just used to it by now. Just another average day for the Avengers.

The system's online.
So ya, those transformations were kinda odd.
This is the part I've been stuck thinking about throughout the day, trying to figure out what exactly Validator is doing/did to them. Bruce may have said they were evolving and adapting, but they really didn't look like it to me. My working theory is that they're perhaps alternate versions of themselves being somehow shown through Validator's new powers. I based this on what happened to Hulk (Maestro being an alternate future version of the Hulk), Smasher (in different realities she could be a man or a... pig, insect thing) and by the alternate costumes for Cap and Wolverine (who, in most other universes I read, look fairly similar to their mainstream counterparts). Maybe Falcon is an actual falcon-man somewhere.
Was this theory influenced by the hours I just spent playing Bioshock Infinite? Oh ya, most definitely. He doesn't row and all that. Hopefully we'll get some answers soon, although probably not next issues since it's about ninjas and stuff, for some reason. Any other theories out there about what's taking place? Let's hear 'em.
Lived, lives, will live.
Died, dies, will die.
If we could perceive time as it truly was,
What reason would grammar professors have to get out of bed?

Date: 2013-04-25 08:22 am (UTC)I do wish we'd gotten to see more of this team. Wendigo is pretty self-explanatory, and Boxx was clearly a robot or telepresence unit, but I'd love to know more about Validator and Kingdom.
It looks, from the two panels we really get of Kingdom, as though he might be related to Flashback... able to summon temporal duplicates, given the shot we see of a second version of himself with a reversed color scheme, and the subsequent mention of "Kingdom Prime." Given that in the Secret Warriors series, Hickman actually did introduce Flashback's children, who both had the same abilities, it's not the most far-fetched of ideas.

Date: 2013-04-25 05:02 pm (UTC)And what is with Marvel's ambigity? I know comics leave doors open, but Marvel has been doing alot of that with EVERYTHING.
We never find out what happen after OMD years later with OMIT, which BARELY explain anything at all properly...
Secret Invasion, Freedom Ring, a Skrull agent turn hero, gets shot and disappears with little to no explanation and follow up.
Speaking of Secret Invasion, the whole thing with Janet's death seemed to be rework like how in the Naruto chapters, Sasuke's brother was a good guy, Tobi was Obito, and Garaa's family really loved him, but all his hardships that broke him were just tests...

Date: 2013-04-25 06:02 pm (UTC)Also really, Alpha/Omega Flight gets killed off again? I don't care if it was mostly a new team, that's still a bush league way of raising the stakes and a waste of characters. I'm getting deja vu to when Hickman casually wiped out a couple cities in the first issue to establish how big and awesome his threats were.
UGH.
