A thing I've noticed with Stephanie's mum is that she rarely seemed to share a character design over a stretch of time.

So in addition to the most recent thing of her being a doctor with light brown hair and glasses...

...she's also had darker hair and looked a little older than she did later...

...To a design completely different from the other two, strange.

Obviously only one solution: Stephanie's mom is Carlie Cooper.

I was gonna make a crack about it being an occupational hazard for mom's in comics and say Just ask Ma Guthrie.

Hypothesis: Stephanie regularly 'adopts' new moms as part of her secret identity

K. So, circumstances of Steph's pregnancy are fuzzy to me--did he really do something to justify the assault? And also, not sure those eyes are going to go back to their starting position.

I dunno, that kindof skeevy response when she said she put the baby up for adoption looks like good enough reason to me. :) Calling her baby 'it'? Think I'm going to chalk that up to bad writing. But can anyone out there tell us more about the baby? It's not something I know much about.

"I put it up for adoption," sounds like normal enough phrasing to me. It's a way of saying either, "I don't know the baby's sex," or "The baby's sex is none of your freakin' concern."

There was already a post about it. Can't find it anywhere.

If I remember correctly, when Steph was pregnant, he acted like it wasn't his problem and just left without a word. So yeah, him coming there and being like "so, now that it's gone, we are together again right" is pretty nasty.

And yet none of that really justifies assault. My problem is that physically abusing someone is often cast as "okay" or "justifiable" (or, god forbid, even humorous) when it's woman-on-man violence, and the reason is often boiled down to "because, emotions".

Don't get me wrong, guy's clearly a jerk. But Steph was trained by Batman. The action lines and expressions suggest this wasn't some "get away from me!" shove of disgust. She kicked him in the balls and straight-up slugged him twice. And with her mom's reaction I think we're supposed to read it as humorous (and even within the story itself, it's verbal endorsement of violence). It's just all around gross.

well, the background on Dean is that he is pretty much a class A Jerk. He left steph when she was pregnant and pretty much called her a whore, now that the baby is gone (a situation Stephanie AGONIZED over) he comes back and finally say "So it WAS mine" yeah like she had told him.

not saying it was 100% justifiable, but he was acting callous and skeevy about a situation that was in many ways traumatic for her.
