One page from CBR's previw of the relaunch of Kurt Busiek's Astro City

Wherein we don't meet a broken man... we meet THE Broken Man

Always been a fan of this series, which details the superbeing (and just ordinary folks) life and times of the nominal city, which has a rich history of heroes, villains and those with less clear cut missions... from the Samarian, to Winged Victory, to the Deacon, to the Junk Man, to the First Family and even the Hanged Man...

And now as we start a new run of the series, we are introduced to a new player one who seems to be more than a little... self-aware.

(no title)

Yes, he looks like a reliable witness, doesn't he?

More, and bigger, pages can be found at the link, where you will also meet another new hero, the probably-more-disturbing-to-look-at-in-real-life-than-one-might-imagine, American Chibi!

American Chibi is an amazing idea and I wish I'd had it first.

So torn. On the one hand -- Astro City! Kurt Busiek!

On the other -- giving money to DC.

Also, for folks not familiar with the series but are curious, the first issue of the original series was released as a digital freebie this week.

Giving money to comics like this could make DC notice and change their direction, if sales are high enough.

Considering that this is a creator-owned property, it could sell through the roof and the odds of it having any impact at all on DC's overall line is slim to nil. At best, DC might court Busiek to come work on company-owned properties, but considering that those are almost entirely editorial driven these days, I doubt his presence would have much impact on their current direction.

On the other hand, it could convince DC to say, "Hey! This is popular! We should incorporate this into the main DCU!"

I mean, Buisek would fight tooth and nail to avoid that from happening, but still.
