Smallville - Season 11 #46

Lois Lane accepts an assignment to Africa to investigate mysterious reports surrounding a vigilante, known as Angel of the Plateau. Lois gets a ride with a UN caravan vehicle transportation escort through Tinasha, where she gets to ask questions to the soldiers about the vigilante "Angel of the Plateau" who they see to think this vigilante is doing more harm than good for the local tribes and children.

The caravan is suddenly caught under fire by the local terrorist cell loyal to the warlord of the regime who fire RPG weaponry at the UN transport. Lois is caught in the crossfire but manages to find protection under one of the turned over vehicles, just as an incoming missile hit the same vehicle, just as they flew above her head about to crash upon her, Lois is saved by a "red-blue blur". Lois assumes it is Clark and proceeds to thank him until she make a shocking discovery that her rescuer is Lana Lang.

Outside suddenly John Corben appears causing havoc making Lana and Lois enter the destruction and try to stop it. As Lana is fighting Corben, he and Lois explain his back story and why he went to become a hired gun after his last meeting with her.

As Corben was explaining how his new heart works Lois realizes what this means for Lana and tries to stop her from attacking him, but she fails. An enraged Lana proceeds to rush Corben and hit him with a flying kick, he grabs her leg and puts her in a choke hold.

In the choke hold, John's heart inadvertently absorbs the Kryptonite fueled nanites stored underneath Lana's skin which fused with John Corben and weapons close to him allowing John to control them.

Smallville - Season 11 #50

Lana distracts John with running him over with a military humvee.

Lois and Lana forcibly removes the Kryptonite power source out of John body to shut him down.

...Okay, how did Lana get super-powers? Who thought that was a good idea?

I feel conflicted on this. On one hand, I feel like that just sounds like a horrible idea for this show/universe. On the other...I think if you're going to give her super-powers...go all out on the silver age references and make her the Insect Queen damn it!

The show's writers, who were practically in love with her. I know that sounds like I'm being an ass, but some of the stuff they said about Lana over the years, and the way they made her more of a paragon than Superman, really gives the impression they thought Smallville was about Lana Lang & not the tale of how Clark Kent becomes Superman.

You're not an ass! It's a classic case of writers/producers falling in love with a character and emphasizing her to the detriment of the rest of the cast. I love Lana as a character and SV Lana could have been a good version, but having her upheld as the paragon of virtue turned me off so much I couldn't stand her.

i never really "Hated" smallville Lana i thought she had a lot of potential. Her Isis foundation was great, when she finally started taking care of herself instead of relying on clark to save her was also great... but they never really seemed to find the right writers or storylines for her. this was actually a great depiction of Lana BQM would probably have written her great. but the writers... i do't know. it seemed like they had a hard time actually executing the storylines.

Not for lack of trying. She stuck around way, way, WAY too long imho. The way she was written off irritates me, but only because I was denied the moment when Lana and Clark FINALLY realized "holy crap, we're terrible for each other and incredibly obnoxious when we're together." Instead, she left because "OMG we can never be together!" Which means that Clark never actually realized his feelings for Lois were stronger than his feelings for Lana, Lana had to literally be removed from the series for that to happen.

But other than that, I was glad to see her go. She was one terrible, obnoxious writer's pet of a character.

Maybe my POV is skewed cause I dropped out in the mid-seasons and only came back just before Lana left, but I really liked her more than Lois in Smallville, especially when Lois first appeared. It almost felt like Clark was supposed to be with Lana and the call of canon was the only reason he got together with Lois at the end... which is odd because they were fine having Green Arrow get together with Chloe instead of Dinah.

I was rather irked with her being shoved aside just to make room for Lois rather than that being the natural development of the character, then again I was also irked with Tess being killed in the last episode cause I didn't think it was really necessary for her or Lex's character.

Poor Lana! Written out to make way for Clois, and then stripped of the powers that caused her exit! Can't catch a break!

#1: Lesson: Lois is more badass than you, even without powers.

#2: What the hell is wrong with this art? All the motion lines are...OFF, like they were afterthoughts added by the editor, not the artist. Why are the heads only sort-of attached (esp. John's head in the fourth page) Where are the panels?
