Oh Monnie...I miss your dreads and cool longcoat look. And that team you used to hang out with and try not to destroy. And those crazy wonderful adventures you all got up to.
I...can I just have a moment...

A black woman; two black dudes, both of whom are or were married to white women; one Afro-Dominican kid from Hell's Kitchen; a Puerto Rican woman (Ava or Angela, whoever it ends up being); a white woman who's green most of the time; a white guy; and whoever ends up being in the Ronin suit.
That doesn't sound like segregation to me so much as the average population of a New York City subway car.
All I get out of this lineup (aside from a brief "Huh, a lot of faces of color, that's good") is: "So... the Avengers lineup is pretty much whichever characters the writer likes now."
Yes, it's always been a changing roster, but ever since Bendis' New Avengers it's been moving away from a core historical lineup with occasional additions, to a team made up with a Random Character Generator (With Previously Loner Characters Given Weighted Chances To Get a Place On the Team).
I like the idea of a team that has both a hero and his legacy on it, although I'll admit I hoped Fred Van Lente would be writing this thing.
Al Ewing did a nice job on those two recent issues of Avengers Assemble, though, so I'm tentatively hopeful for this. I'll have to hold my nose and deal with Land's not-art.
It's always going to be more about playing them off each other than sheer power levels, particularly these days. What I'm going to be interested in is how Ewing gets away with Blue Marvel in a team setting, since nobody's ever written the character before besides Grevioux and Grevioux got... a little carried away.
I"m curious about this, because Luke Cage and Victor Alvarez don't like each other. They are both from the streets, for reals, dawg. But Luke went on to sip champagne with Tony Stark.
Good point. I hope they really play up and explore Blue Marvel's, Luke Cage's, Falcon's, and Power Man's different perspectives on what it means to be "black".

Monica Rambeau should become the new Ms. Marvel since Carol is the Captain now.

Wonder how that relates to this. Also wondering if they stated for sure that's SpOck, and not Kaine?

I wonder Victor's attitude towards Luke Cage is Fred Van Lente's "take" on how Bendis would have Luke Cage call everyone he didn't like a "sellout."
