it looks very PTSD like... was she raped? or tortured? or just the shocking realization that the society that she was raised in was fucked up? (not that either is better. it just seems like i am missing something big here)
She was tortured and found out her culture is telling a very big lie about where htey come from. If I could do a spoiler cut on dreamwidth I'd post the actual spoiler. It led to her rejecting the identity as part of the tribe.
Edit: On Second thought I'll post it after all since the pages were in the issue preview on several sites.
Batu learns her people aren't some hidden chosen by divine right all female tribe but actually survive by adopting the unwanted female children who would have been killed by their families.
She threatens if they come after her son she'll expose that they are just selfishly gaurding the source of their powers form the rest of the world. She also rejects being a daughter of Brightmoon saying she is just the daughter of a man and woman who didn't want her.
She's sad to leave her dragon saying she will have nothing left of that place and when Aso says she'll have her son Batu says her son isn't of that place but something new.

2) hmmm i ask because it seems like she actually seems concerned ("He might be in danger") instead of "It won't look good if he gets hurt and you were able to help"
3) hmmm is that it? not that it was not shocking, but from the look on her it seems like it was something bigger than that.... regardless it seems like she doesn't want him killed any more....
4) yeah i have been meaning to read this series but have only been reading what has been posted on here, and they are selected scenes in no real order so i feel like its possible i missed something
4) I think the issue here is that her husband is taking a much less submissive sexual role than she's used to. He wants to be on top this time... as it were. Batu appears to be uncomfortable with that.
Remind me again if I'm supposed to warm to any one of these characters except the little boy (Whose life officially sucks beyond the telling for all of his big sisters histironics), and if so, WHY?
from the bits and pieces i have seen i actually kinda like what i have seen. Nightfox and Twilight's story is intruiging. i am also enjoying the amazon story as it unfolds.
also the african heroes stories (anansi i think and his wife)
How about Marine Omega's wife? Or Agent Twilight? Heck, I find Night Fox's wife plenty sympathetic too. Some readers call her cold, but I see that as much as a reaction to recently having her heart broken by her husband's infidelity as anything else. And the fact that she's trying to put the business first, ahead of whatever personal resentments she has for the pair, is admirable in its own way.
Is it weird that I'm much more interested in the party with the alien representatives than the other plot elements here?
I don't think that comic books, or any fiction media for that matter, really show humanity making diplomatic ties with alien species that often.
I know that shows like Babylon 5 had plenty of politics and delicate negotiations mixed in with cool scifi action, but that was set in the future.
And I know that Marvel's SWORD agency employed "walk quietly and carry big superpowered sticks" to fend off some alien aggressors.
This though feels different in that it's modern day and it's the superhumans representing Earth, but apparently everyone's in good relations with each other.
SWORD is headed by Abigail Brand. I really don't know how you can possibly use the 'quietly' adjective with a straight face when she's involved, except in sentences like "please cooperate quietly before Commander Brand has to get involved. You know how much that annoys her..."
I have so much love for this book since S_D introduced me to it. The bathtub scene was awesome. Mom's used to being the dominant one in the relationship, but now her world view's shaken and when she tries to get comfort... her husband tries to flip the script.
Love Zari, love Eve, Love Hella. Their stories are going in very interesting directions.
So much love for this story. Thank you, SD. This is exactly the book I was looking for.

3) The Wonder Woman expy was prepared to let her son be murdered by her tribe, but not used as a one kid stud farm which was their intent.
4) No clue, whatever's going on does not come across well.
