Huh.. I always pictured in a Batman/Gargoyles crossover, Xanatos managed to deduce and discovery the identity of the Batman, all part of a complez ploy, that Batman was truly... LEX LUTHOR! Then Xanatos would set out to undermine all of Lexy's business plans, having the two cooperates to waste thousands if not millions of money... as Bruce play out the "smartest" villains for suckers....
I'm reminded of this lovely bit, by Christopher Priest on UseNet, when someone asked him how he'd write (his) Black Panther vs Batman:
"This is fairly accurate. If I was writing the whole thing, I think Bats would win because Bats is far more obsessed and in "the zone" than Panther. But then, like, after the lettercol and 3 ad pages, there'd be, suddenly, another 8 pages of story where we see T'Challa in his office at the Wakandan consulate, and an enraged Bats steps out of the shadow, annoyed that, as it turns out, things worked out exactly the way The Black Panther wanted all along.
And then Xero would phase back through the wall, hop into SkyTrane and take off."
Yeah, but the situation I thought up would be a role reversal of that, having Xanatos thinking he has the upperhand, but Bats is playing him as a fool.
Yeah, but imagine the look on his face when he realizes that he was played as a fool in his complex schemes and plans... cause remember, people see Bruce as a lazy, rich man who made his way through old money and does nothing but through rich parties while having the occasional charity event... what would you expect from a man like that?
All I feel when I read slightly pass my eyes over those Channel 52 bits is that they remind me a lot of the morning shows clips from Fox News that I see on the Daily Show. As in, vacuous and meaningless.
It doesn't help that the art has a very clipart and plastic feel to it.
Not to mention that to the more casual DC reader, who may only know of the big 5+ a few extras/sidekicks (along with said heroes villains), most of these jokes'll go completely over their heads. I personally am not about to pick up say, a Animal Man comic based on a two page joke.
