Newish webcomic - Broodhollow.
Jun. 24th, 2013 12:09 amKris Straub, creator of horror/creepypasta site Ichor Falls (probably best known for the Candle Cove story) and the comedic webcomic Chainsawsuit has another comic that I only recently discovered, despite the fact that he's been doing it since October of last year, called Broodhollow. Set in the town of Broodhollow (just down the tracks from Ichor Falls) in the 1930s, it follows Wadsworth Zane (a down on his luck encyclopedia salesman) after coming to Broodhollow on family business.
20 pages from the first half of the currently extant comics under the cut.
It's easiest just to dive in...

So, obviously, he ends up heading off to Broodhollow. He finds himself on a really, really old train, on old, old tracks. Trying to avoid falling asleep and having that dream again, he chats with the old woman in the next seat.

'Town of a Thousand Holidays', huh? Sounds very nice.
Until you discover that one of those holidays is called Totenkinder.
Eventually, the train makes it to Broodhollow.

While trying to find the hotel, he runs into menacing figures who seem to be threatening him - but it turns out to be a group of local millworkers called the Bottlefly Boys, who just want to help him find the hotel, which they do.
As Wadsworth tells Dr Angstrom about the encounter, we learn a bit more about him:

The next day, he heads off to the lawyers to see if his inheritance is still waiting for him.

As it turns out, his inheritance is an old antique's shop his uncle ran in town...but claiming his inheritance and getting out of town won't be as easy as Wadsworth wants...

So, he goes to the Ouster Day ceremony with Iris, and is introduced to the town by the mayor. It turns out Ouster Day is an evening celebration where everybody in town makes lots and lots of noise to drive out evil spirits. (Usually with tuning forks, but any noise will do.)

The Bottlefly Boys show up and drive off the monster bats, and Wadsworth makes his way back to the hotel.

Surprisingly, after that, he actually manages to sleep...

And, being the December 31st installment, I think that's a good place to leave off.
