I choose to believe he heated it up just enough to make it hot to the touch and maybe give a heat warning.
For example, last year when I was moving I left my iPod in the truck while picking stuff up. When I got back, the thing was really hot to the touch and it had a warning saying that it needed to be put in a cooler area or else it will risk damage to the device. After a couple of minutes in my pocket, I was able to bring it back on without any fuss. Since then I keep in in my pocket if I'm outside and I haven't gotten an alarm like that since.
So if he emits a heat frequency enough to make them really hot to the touch for a few seconds, it won't permanently damage them.
Plus, you have to assume that since these guys are using them as part of "reputable" news organizations like Galaxy/Daily Planet, it's likely that even if they were damaged, it's likely they can be replaced easily enough.
Eh, I kinda like it. Clark being honest with Cat about his doubts and his trust levels, her taking it in stride. Him using his powers to help her out, it gives him a bit of character.
And I like the art, the faces are distinct and well drawn. This almost has me wanting to pick up Action Comics for the first time since... uh... I guess when Busiek wrote it.
Lobdell's only doing a couple of issues for Action--presumably it was a fill-in while DC sorted out the whole Andy Diggle situation. But I believe in October we get a new creative team of Greg Pak and Aaron Kuder.
If you're enjoying this, though, you should give Lobdell's run of Superman a shot.
Honestly, I'm really enjoying this as well as Lobdell's run of Superman in general. While his TT's a little...less than it should, I think his run has been really fun in a retro, pulpy sorta way.
Also...is it just me, or does this guy seem to basically be Namor in space? He even has his own "imperious rex" style battle cry!

They just don't even try, do they.
And welcome to a nice example of modern day Superdickery as Clark fries expensive electronics for a petty reason.
